Job Description
Split Rock Center for Rehabilitation & Nursing is seeking a strong, experienced Director of Nursing (DON) to lead our clinical team and uphold the highest standards of resident care. Our facility offers specialized, high-acuity services including on-site dialysis and a dedicated ventilator and tracheostomy (vent/trach) unit, providing an exciting opportunity for a clinical leader experienced in complex care environments.
Position Overview
The Director of Nursing (DON) is responsible for the overall leadership, direction, and coordination of the nursing department. This role oversees all nursing operations, ensures regulatory compliance, and promotes a culture of accountability, teamwork, and clinical excellence.
Working closely with the Administrator, Medical Director, and specialty service providers, the DON plays a critical role in maintaining survey readiness, improving quality outcomes, and supporting the professional development of nursing staff—particularly within high-acuity service lines such as dialysis and vent/trach care.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide leadership and oversight of all nursing services and clinical operations, including on-site dialysis and vent/trach units
- Maintain continuous survey readiness in accordance with NYSDOH and CMS regulations
- Ensure clinical excellence in the management of high-acuity residents requiring respiratory and renal support
- Recruit, mentor, and retain high-performing nursing staff
- Establish and maintain clinical competencies, including specialized training for dialysis and ventilator care
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to improve resident outcomes and satisfaction
- Oversee infection control, risk management, and QA/QAPI initiatives
- Develop and manage staffing plans, scheduling, and departmental budgets
- Promote a culture of professionalism, accountability, and teamwork
- Serve as a visible, accessible clinical leader throughout the facility
Qualifications
- Active New York RN License in good standing
- BSN preferred (ADN with strong leadership experience will be considered)
- Minimum 2+ years of leadership experience as a DON, ADON, or Nurse Manager in a skilled nursing or long-term care setting
- Experience with ventilator, tracheostomy, and/or dialysis services strongly preferred
- Proven success with state surveys and regulatory compliance
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
- Ability to build, develop, and sustain a high-performing clinical team
