General Description
The Fine Grading Laborer is responsible for assisting with earthwork, roadway, and fine grading operations on construction sites. This role involves performing manual labor, operating hand tools and small equipment, and ensuring precision in grading work under the supervision of the Fine Grading Foreman.
Key Duties
Grading & Site Preparation:
Assist in fine grading, excavation, and site leveling for construction projects.
Work with the grading team to ensure proper surface preparation and compaction.
Follow site plans and grade specifications to meet project requirements.
Equipment Operation & Manual Labor:
Use hand tools and power tools such as shovels, rakes, compaction equipment, and grade rods.
Assist in setting grade stakes and measuring elevations for accuracy.
Operate small construction equipment as directed by the Foreman.
Safety & Compliance:
Follow all company and OSHA safety regulations to maintain a safe work environment.
Be aware of surrounding job site hazards, including moving equipment and heavy machinery.
Participate in safety meetings and toolbox talks as required.
General Responsibilities:
Maintain a clean and organized worksite.
Assist with material handling, loading, and unloading as needed.
Communicate professionally with supervisors, teammates, and contractors.
Perform other duties as assigned to support grading operations.
Qualification Requirements
Education & Experience:
High school diploma or GED preferred.
Prior experience in grading, excavation, or construction is a plus.
Must be able to understand work directions and communicate effectively.
Skills & Competencies:
Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
Experience using hand tools and small grading equipment.
Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions.
Physical Demands
Frequent standing, bending, stooping, and crouching for at least 8 hours per shift.
Ability to lift 50 lbs frequently and up to 150 lbs with assistance.
Walk on uneven terrain in varying weather conditions.
Maintain constant awareness of construction site activities.
Work Environment
Outdoor construction sites in all weather conditions.
Exposure to high noise levels, dust, grease, and heavy machinery.
Work near moving equipment and construction materials.
Handling of substances such as form oil, curing compounds, gasoline, diesel fuel, and asphalt.
