Job Summary:
Our Production team is seeking a Production Quality Engineer to drive quality excellence across the product lifecycle, with a strong emphasis on L11 component quality and rack-level systems. This role focuses on collecting and analyzing quality metrics to deliver actionable design feedback for manufacturing, lead product quality improvement initiatives, and provide post-sales product quality and service support to maximize customer satisfaction.
The Production Quality Engineer will be primarily responsible for quality functions covering supply chain and incoming quality, in-house manufacturing quality, product reliability, and performance. A key focus will be working closely with suppliers to identify, drive root cause analysis, and implement effective Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA) for quality issues related to rack-level components and other critical parts. The individual will collaborate with senior management of global production operations to establish quality-focused teams, mandate standard practices of quality principles, and provide oversight across all global operations sites and cross-functional departments.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

- Champion standard practices of quality principles, from defect detection to root-cause analysis and preventive action (CAPA), through continuous improvement initiatives.
- Establish and enhance quality control processes, with specific focus on L11 component quality and rack-level assemblies.
- Enforce process quality control and defect countermeasures at suppliers, Contract Manufacturers (CM) partners, as well as internal Supermicro (SMC) operations.
- Work closely with suppliers to drive thorough root cause analysis and implement robust CAPA for quality issues on rack-level components and other critical hardware.
- Perform product-level failure analysis, define appropriate Design of Experiments (DOE), collect and analyze data to substantiate findings and drive corrective actions.
- Identify trends and opportunities for process and control improvement by periodically reviewing data from quality systems; translate insights to help teams act on quality issues proactively.
- Translate customer quality requirements into internal standards and take ownership for end-to-end product quality.
- Help set up and enhance corporate quality standards, measurements, and reporting mechanisms.
- Support post-sales quality and field issue resolution, ensuring timely and effective customer support.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Engineering, Supply Chain, Manufacturing) to integrate quality improvements into design and production processes.
Note: This position requires regular in-office attendance at our San Jose, CA headquarters. The successful candidate is expected to be present during standard working hours for collaboration, team meetings, training sessions, and on-site activities.
Qualifications:
- BS in Electrical Engineering (EE), Industrial Engineering (IE), or related field required; MS in EE is highly desired.
- 4+ years of relevant hands-on experience in electronic and computer products, preferably in quality management systems within the computer/server industry.
- Strong experience with L11 component quality, rack-level systems, and system integration business is a plus.
- Demonstrated experience in supplier quality control and management, including driving root cause analysis and CAPA for component and rack-level issues.
- Experience with product quality in a high-volume product company environment.
- Excellent communication and analytical problem-solving skills.
- Proficient in MS Excel (advanced functions, pivot tables, charting) and data analysis tools; experience with statistical process control (SPC) is a plus.
- Experience in frontline quality leadership, hosting quality audits, and delivering quality training programs.
- Excellent technical writing skills with demonstrated expertise in compiling procedures, work instructions, and quality documentation.
- Strong understanding of quality tools such as 8D, 5-Why, Fishbone, FMEA, and CAPA methodologies.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, global operations environment with cross-functional and international collaboration.
Physical Requirements and Work Conditions:
The physical demands and work conditions described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job:
- Able to stand, sit, walk, bend, stoop, reach, lift, and carry items.
- Perform tasks that require standing and walking for long periods up to entire shift.
- Lift, carry, push and pull in an excess of 25lb and up to 40lbs. Able to utilize a "buddy system" for moving objects more than 50 lbs. (For applicable positions: Must be able to operate pallet jack and forklift efficiently and safely.)
- Must be able to wear safety shoes, earmuffs or other required PPE as needed.
- Primarily works indoors with controlled climate conditions.
Salary Range
$75,000 - $138,000
The salary offered will depend on several factors, including your location, level, education, training, specific skills, years of experience, and comparison to other employees already in this role. In addition to a comprehensive benefits package, candidates may be eligible for other forms of compensation, such as participation in bonus and equity award programs.
