Job Description

 In this role you will be:

● Building strong, real relationships with rangatahi (15–17) from complex backgrounds

● Supporting rangatahi to set goals and create pathways into employment, training, or education

● Opening doors with employers and training providers across Hamilton, Waikato

● Cold-calling, visiting worksites, and creating opportunities where others don’t

● Supporting rangatahi into jobs or training – and working with our team to stay alongside them after placement

● Providing mentoring, accountability, and pastoral care when things get tough

● Working closely with whaanau and the Oho Mauri team to wrap support around each young person and also helping out with the van drop offs between 3pm to 4.30pm

This role is for someone who is:

● A natural connector – can walk into any space and build trust fast

● Firm but fair – structured, consistent, and calm under pressure

● Resilient – thick-skinned, patient, and not easily discouraged

● Community-minded – knows (or can quickly learn) the Hamilton, Waikato employment and training landscape

● A mentor at heart – passionate about helping rangatahi find their worth and direction

Backgrounds in youth work, coaching, employment mentoring, personal training, or military service are a strong advantage.

You’ll need:

● Experience supporting youth or adults into employment, training, or life pathways

● Confidence building relationships with employers and industry partners

● Strong communication and organisation skills

● Cultural competence and confidence working within kaupapa Maaori

● A full and clean NZ driver’s licence
