The Department of Biochemistry has an outstanding opportunity for Research Scientist/Engr Assistant to join their team.
About this Opportunity
This position will provide technical support for the cryo-electron microscopy center, supporting structural biology and structural cell biology projects across a range of fields in biomedical reseach, including biochemistry, biophysics, immunology, protein design, cell biology, drug discovery, and pharmacology.
The diverse array of projects supported by this position include basic research in biomolecular function, protein engineering, and drug discovery efforts.
Key Responsibilities
50% TEM sample preparation, including for single particle analysis and FIB-milling SEM
15% routine maintenance of facility equipment, including sample preparation equipment, microscopes, and space
10% interact with users and service providers for equipment repairs, and maintain records of those repairs
10% train new users to load samples into microscopes and set up cryo-EM data acquisition
5% write and edit training and safety protocols for facility equipment
5% train users on FIB-SEM operation
5% maintain and aggregate usage information for user billing purposes on a monthly basis

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor's Degree in Biochemistry or related field and less than one year of relevant experience.

Ability to keep careful records
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with cryo-EM data acquisition optimization and image processing
Understanding of fundamental principles in structural biology
