An exciting position is now available in our Property, Energy and Construction team for a team lead to support the growth of the International Property insurance product in the Benelux region
As a Team Lead you guide the property underwriting team in the middle market segment
You will manage the property portfolio in this segment with your technical expertise on domestic business and international programs
You will be responsible for working within authority limits on assignments reflecting the expert degree of technical complexity and coordination under broad management direction
The position requires travelling
This is a regulated role under the Central Bank of Ireland’s Fitness and Probity regime
What you’ll be DOING What will your essential responsibilities include
Manage the underwriting operations within the mid-market property portfolio
This includes, but is not limited to, portfolio profitability management, new business production and renewal retention in line with the Company’s business plan, strategy and guidelines
Underwrite international and domestic accounts within the middle market segment, new or existing accounts, complying with underwriting guidelines, authorities, processes and strategy
Lead, promote and develop appropriate relationships with brokers, clients, reinsurers, market players to build up a robust valued network and bring in targeted business
Portfolio Management of the book of accounts and how it interacts with the wider property portfolio
Represent AXA XL during external events/meetings and efficiently promote AXA XL values, capabilities and services
Work with other key departments and stakeholders to improve our internal cross-sale processes and opportunities
Maintain and develop strategic relationships and pipeline, acting as the escalation point for broking partners
Further develop our facility and MGA book of business in line with the GTM strategy and in close collaboration with other business lines and distribution
Assist and deputize for management, undertaking such duties as and when required
Lead, develop and manage a team of underwriters, acting as a referral point
Oversight on submissions including applications, policy wording, inspection reports, loss runs, and financial reports
Share your thorough working knowledge of underwriting principles, procedures and controls to support the development of team members
Control timely implementation of new and renewed accounts according to quality standards and work in close collaboration with our back-office teams
Ensure client satisfaction as it relates to fulfilment of their insurance requirements
In coordination with other internal teams, determine appropriate reinsurance for risk placements
Support continuous improvement and efficiency initiatives within the key functions including Underwriting, Finance, Claims and Operations
Facilitate, participate and contribute to meetings of underwriting, other technical committees and subject matter expert groups; ensuring clear communication and productive discussions which lead to informed decisions
Assist in underwriting file reviews to ensure adherence to established principles, guidelines and procedures
Assist in the implementation of underwriting governance frameworks and ensure compliance with internal controls
Maintain awareness of all claims advised; support and provide input on settlement of claims advised
Support business reporting and performance analysis, market research and analysis, develop in depth studies of specific topics where required
You will report to the Underwriting Manager Property, Energy and Construction Benelux
What you will BRING We’re looking for someone who has these abilities and skills: Bachelor’s Degree preferred and equivalent experience in policy development and broker management
Advanced knowledge of the insurance market, property underwriting and sales experience, with recognized knowledge and abilities overall with property insurance
Ability to lead, coach and develop others in this segment
Fluent in spoken and written Dutch and English
Possess a high and extensive level of technical knowledge and skills
Able to apply business understanding and/or management experience to set direction within the segment or function
Excellent interpersonal skills, communication (including active listening skills), networking, marketing, and collaboration skills evidenced by public speaking and presentation experience
Passionate about doing business, negotiating and driving growth in a dynamic market
A natural business developer who enjoys being out in the market, with highly developed influencing and negotiation skills and a keen appetite for closing the deal
Attention to detail, good organizational skills and the poise to present to brokers and clients; ability to prioritize with both individual and the team’s best interests in mind
An early adopter mindset with a solution-oriented approach - ability to respond to a changing environment with flexibility and innovation
A team player with an open mind, enthusiastic to learn and grow, and the ability to work self-directed
