
Facilities Maintenance Technician
Job Description
Job Status: Non-Exempt
Location: Office Environment
- Perform maintenance and repairs to interior and exterior building systems, including plumbing, electrical, carpentry, drywall, painting, and minor HVAC tasks.
- Assess maintenance issues, determine appropriate repair solutions, and address root causes to prevent repeat problems.
- Respond to routine and emergency maintenance requests across multiple SVDP facilities in a timely and professional manner.
- Conduct preventative maintenance inspections and proactively identify safety or operational concerns.
- Coordinate with vendors, contractors, and suppliers to ensure timely completion of projects and cost-effective solutions.
- Monitor work performed by external parties to ensure compliance with specifications, safety standards, and quality expectations.
- Maintain organized and accurate records of work orders, inspections, and material usage in the agency’s maintenance tracking system.
- Pick up, transport, and properly secure maintenance materials, tools, and equipment between locations.
- Move, assemble, and install furniture, fixtures, and equipment as needed.
- Adhere to all safety procedures and promptly report hazards, unsafe conditions, or maintenance risks.
- Take full ownership of assigned work orders from initiation through completion, ensuring tasks are completed accurately, efficiently, and to established standards.
- Provide thorough, accurate, and timely documentation of all work performed, including clear and complete updates in work order systems to ensure transparency, traceability, and accountability.
- Proactively manage workload and priorities, ensuring all assigned tasks are followed through to completion without the need for direct oversight.
- Identify and resolve issues independently whenever possible, exercising sound judgment and initiative.
- Deliver high-quality service to internal customers by maintaining strong communication, responsiveness, and professionalism.
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- 2+ years of hands-on experience in facilities maintenance, building trades, or a related field; additional experience is strongly valued.
- Valid driver’s license with a safe driving record and the ability to regularly drive between multiple SVDP locations.
- Reliable transportation to and from work is required.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and maintenance documentation.
- Familiarity with tools, materials, and equipment commonly used in building maintenance and repair (e.g., tape measure, level, etc.).
- Strong troubleshooting skills, sound judgment, and exceptional attention to detail.
- Intermediate computer skills for tracking work orders, including accurate documentation and task scheduling.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and manage time effectively across multiple priorities.
- Highly self-motivated with a strong sense of ownership, accountability, and follow-through.
- Demonstrated ability to take initiative, prioritize work, and complete tasks without constant direction.
- Strong sense of pride in maintaining assigned facilities and delivering high-quality outcomes.
- Good interpersonal communication skills and a customer-service-oriented mindset focused on internal customer satisfaction.
- Flexibility to respond to shifting priorities, emergencies, and after-hours needs when required.
- Understanding workplace safety practices, building codes, and emergency response procedures.
- Certification or formal training in one or more of the following trades: HVAC, plumbing, electrical, or general building maintenance.
- Willingness to share knowledge and support team members as needed.
- Frequent driving, standing, walking, climbing ladders, and lifting or moving items up to 50 lbs.
- Occasional crawling, kneeling, crouching, stooping, or working in confined spaces.
- Ability to work at heights and in varying indoor and outdoor conditions.
- Must be able to walk multiple flights of stairs, depending on facility location.
- Regular use of visual and auditory senses; occasional verbal communication.
