SENIOR RECREATION ASSISTANT
Location: Elwyn, PA
Status: Full time
Shift: Monday - Friday, 8 am to 430 pm
Position Purpose:
The primary purpose of this position is to assist with creating, implementation, and evaluation of therapeutic recreational activities for all participants, in accordance with the participant's assessment and care plan. The Senior Recreation Assistant will proactively identify, develop and execute solutions to enhance the participant experience. This position is also responsible for leading recreational activities in absence of the recreation therapist or manager.
What you will do
This program provides services to a community specifically comprised of deaf seniors. All candidates must be willing to learn American Sign Language (ASL).
What you will do:
Plan and execute activities tailored to the dementia-specific population, including small groups, one-on-one sessions, and sensory stimulation.
Develop/implement group and individual activities to address participants' cognitive, physical, social, psychosocial, and artistic needs.
Support participants in improving their daily lives by fostering socialization, expanding personal interests, increasing physical activity, and promoting lifelong learning.
Assist in creating written plans of care for each participant's activities program,
Contribute to the development of a monthly calendar and quarterly newsletter.
Monitor inventory of recreation therapy supplies and equipment.
Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma or equivalent required
Minimum of two (2) years of experience working in social or recreational programs with frail or elderly population required
Willingness to learn ASL required. American Sign Language (ASL) proficiency preferred
Education or training in geriatrics, including dementia preferred.
Must manage conflict well, be customer focused, have high decision quality, flexibility to adapt to ongoing change and have organizational agility.
Well-developed written, oral and/or ASL communication skills. Able to communicate effectively with individuals and groups representing diverse perspectives.
Comprehensive proficiency with Microsoft product suite (MS Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.); basic knowledge and experience with electronic mail and calendaring system
Ability to work with minimal supervision and exercise independent judgment.
Some travel within the region may be required.
