Job Description

Flowery Branch High School seeks a passionate, student-centered English Language Arts teacher dedicated to fostering literacy, critical thinking, communication, and a love of learning. The successful candidate will create engaging learning experiences that develop students' skills in reading, writing, speaking, listening, and analysis while preparing them for success in college, careers, and life. The teacher will cultivate a classroom culture that promotes academic excellence, student engagement, and meaningful relationships.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver rigorous, standards-based instruction aligned to Georgia Standards of Excellence and Hall County School District expectations.
  • Create a positive, inclusive, and engaging classroom environment that supports the academic, social, and emotional growth of all students.
  • Design and implement lessons that develop students' skills in reading comprehension, literary analysis, research, writing, communication, and critical thinking.
  • Utilize a variety of instructional strategies, including differentiated instruction, collaborative learning, student discourse, and technology integration, to meet diverse student needs.
  • Foster an appreciation for literature by exposing students to a variety of texts, perspectives, genres, and cultures.
  • Analyze student performance data and utilize findings to inform instruction, provide interventions, and celebrate student growth.
  • Develop and administer formative and summative assessments that accurately measure student learning and progress.
  • Collaborate with colleagues through Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) to analyze data, plan instruction, develop common assessments, and improve student outcomes.
  • Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, communication, and student progress in accordance with district and state requirements.
  • Communicate effectively with students, families, and staff to support student achievement and build positive relationships.
  • Implement school-wide expectations for behavior, attendance, and academic integrity while maintaining a safe and orderly learning environment.
  • Participate in professional learning opportunities and actively engage in continuous professional growth.
  • Support extracurricular activities, school initiatives, and student programs as appropriate.
  • Contribute positively to the culture, mission, and vision of Flowery Branch High School.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of current instructional best practices, literacy strategies, and adolescent learning.
  • Strong understanding of English Language Arts content, including literature, composition, grammar, research, and communication skills.
  • Ability to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners.
  • Knowledge of assessment practices and data analysis to improve student achievement.
  • Proficiency in educational technology and digital learning platforms.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to establish positive relationships with students, families, colleagues, and community stakeholders.
  • Commitment to fostering student growth through high expectations, meaningful feedback, and engaging instruction.

Qualifications

Required

  • Valid Georgia Teaching Certificate in English Language Arts (6�12) or eligibility for certification.
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university.

Preferred

  • Master's Degree or higher in English, Education, Curriculum and Instruction, or a related field.
  • Successful experience teaching secondary English Language Arts.
  • Experience with Advanced Placement, Honors, inclusion/co-teaching, or differentiated instructional models.

Physical Requirements

Work is performed primarily in a classroom and school setting. The position may require standing, walking, lifting instructional materials, and supervising students in various school environments.

Additional Duties

Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Principal or designee in support of the mission and goals of Flowery Branch High School and Hall County Schools.
