Position Details
The Campus Safety Supervisor for Parking and Traffic would provide overall supervision of the parking and traffic control activities for the department. This includes supervision of the staff assistant and the four parking specialists, coordination with Physical Security in working with events requiring parking, responding to parking and traffic related incidents and complaints, maintaining data on parking capacity and usage, monitoring pedestrian, vehicular, and other forms of traffic within the University campus and on the perimeter. Normal shift coverage will be Monday through Friday 700 am to 300 pm. Changes or adjustments might occur but will be addressed in advance with the supervisor based on university needs.
Essential Job Functions
1. Supervision of one staff assistant and four parking specialists.
2. Coordinate with the City of Tampa, Florida Department of Transportation, Tampa Downtown Partnership and other municipal agencies to upgrade vehicular and pedestrian safety in and around the campus.
3. Contribute to campus master planning and other Design & Construction projects that affect vehicular and pedestrian transportation.
4. Address all questions or concerns that arise from parking officers or students/others regarding complaints or issues regarding tickets, immobilization device use, and impounds that may arise daily.
5. Work with parking administration support person and parking officers to identify any trends or issues that arise and address patterns and plan for special events.
6. Meet with students regarding the removal of immobilization devices and help them navigate proper parking or permitting procedures.
7. Work with Associate Director on scheduling and training of ALICE classes and certifications to include recertification of instructors.
8. Assist the Assistant Director with planning and assignment of any newly hired officers into the Field Training Program and oversee the matriculation of the officers for each phase of training and ultimate assignment to assigned shift.
9. Maintain and be point of contact for all UTampa bike officers for training and bike maintenance needs. Work with Tampa PD and Hillsborough County Sheriffs Office on any training courses as they become available to insert into new officer training or schedule any re-certifications necessary.
10. Maintain the annual impounded bicycle cage and documentation of the inventory as required for any seized bicycles. During summer ensure the inventory is managed and any property held for 11 months, or more is donated appropriately.
11. Work with any student-oriented tabling for securing bicycles and the safety and awareness presentation needs determined.
12. If needed, be an accessible supervisor for any shift that may require coverage due to absence of both the supervisor and/or asst. supervisor.
Qualifications
1. High school diploma or equivalent.
2. Law enforcement or military experience preferred.
3. Must possess Florida Department of Agriculture Class "D" and "G" licenses.
4. Five (5) years of supervisory experience required.
5. Must be able to exert appropriate strength when necessary.
6. Ability to climb stairs to the top of an eleven-story building.
7. Ability to make judgment calls while under pressure/duress.
8. Ability to carry and use, if necessary, a firearm under pressure/duress appropriately.
9. Excellent clear and concise communication skills required.
10. Must have a valid Florida driver's license.
11. Must successfully pass a personal background, criminal records and psychological check.
12. Experience in using various Safety Department equipment (two-way radio, cameras, and computers).
13. Experience in a college or university setting preferred.
14. Strong interpersonal skills to build working partnerships with faculty, staff, and students as well as external parties including neighbors/local residents, city officials, municipal/county/state police agencies, local health services, first responders, and members of the media.
15. Ability to de-escalate conflict situations and a demeanor that is perceived as professional yet calm and relaxed.
16. A high level of professional ethics and personal integrity.
