Job Summary
The Church Choir/Music Director is a part-time position with a flexible work schedule. The Director will lead and direct the church choir, coordinate and oversee music ministry activities and conduct respective administrative task necessary to carry out such responsibilities. The role often involves nurturing choir members, managing music resources, and participating in various church events. This employee will report to the church Pastor.
Job Responsibilities
- Schedule, plan and coordinate music for 10 am Mass, consult with other music leaders on other masses, as well as Pastor regarding hymns and special music presentations – focus on both traditional and contemporary music to keep things current
- Assist with Music coordination for weekly school masses held on Wednesdays at 8am
- Lead weekly choir rehearsals and direct the Adult Choir at mass
- Recruit and Develop new Choir Members
- Work with Pastor and other musicians to plan and coordinate music for various services and events, including but not limited to funerals, weddings, concerts and seasonal services.
- Develop, direct, and expand the variety of instrumentalists
- Manage and maintain church owned music equipment as needed.
- Plan a yearly calendar and budget for music ministry and monitor expenditures
- Manage the music library and communication with the choir, parish office, and other music members in the parish as needed
- Foster a positive and encouraging environment within the choir as well as potentially participate in other church ministries.
Job Requirements
- Strong Knowledge of vocal music, conducting music, and coordinating musical events.
- A bachelor’s in Music, Music Education, Music Performance or a similar study is preferred.
- Good People skills and the ability to inspire volunteer choirs.
- Able to lead energizing, dynamic and inspiring worship music in traditional and contemporary styles
- Proficiency in organ, piano, voice and music direction preferred.
- Able to lead musical ensembles with musicians of various skills and backgrounds.
- Ability to work collaboratively in team environment
- Self-starter with strong project management skills, self motivated
