Quality & Laboratory Supervisor

BioMar Australia is seeking a Quality & Laboratory Supervisor to join our team on Tasmania’s stunning northwest coast. Reporting to the Quality Manager, this role plays a critical part in ensuring the quality, safety, and compliance of our world-class aquaculture feed products while supervising our laboratory operations and team.
About the Role
As the Quality & Laboratory Supervisor, you will be responsible for coordinating laboratory activities, overseeing quality assurance processes, and supporting the ongoing development of laboratory personnel. You will work closely with production, operations, suppliers, and other stakeholders to ensure products consistently meet BioMar’s high standards and regulatory requirements.
This role combines technical quality expertise, team supervision, compliance management, and continuous improvement leadership.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate daily laboratory operations and quality assurance activities.
- Lead, coach, and develop laboratory team members, including training, competency development, performance management, and workload planning.
- Oversee quality control testing of raw materials, in-process products, and finished feed products using NIR, wet chemistry, physical testing, and advanced analytical methods.
- Monitor production processes and collaborate with operational teams to maintain product quality and resolve quality-related issues.
- Conduct internal quality audits and manage corrective and preventive actions.
- Ensure compliance with HACCP, ISO standards, quality management systems, and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain laboratory equipment, calibration schedules, proficiency testing programs, and data integrity standards.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives, including digital quality systems, laboratory efficiency improvements, and process optimisation.
- Manage laboratory consumables, purchasing activities, and budget inputs.
- Promote a strong safety culture through risk assessments, incident investigations, and compliance with WHS requirements.
- Act as a key point of contact for suppliers, auditors, regulators, and internal stakeholders on quality and laboratory matters.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will bring:
- A Bachelor of Science, laboratory qualification, or equivalent technical qualification.
- 4–5 years’ experience in quality assurance, laboratory operations, or a related technical environment.
- Previous experience supervising or leading team members.
- Strong knowledge of quality systems, food safety standards, HACCP, and ISO requirements.
- Experience interpreting laboratory data and applying analytical problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
- A proactive approach to continuous improvement and operational excellence.
- A commitment to workplace safety, quality, and teamwork.
