Job Description

Primary Role

 

This is a sales position helping employers find health care benefit solutions, and improve employee retention by creating or enhancing their employee benefits packages.​ The position incorporates selling individual and group life, health, dental, vision and ancillary products of insurance.​ You will be working with our currently contracted clients, large and small business accounts, as well as developing new accounts.​ You must have or obtain State of Indiana Accident & Health, Life license within 60 days of hire.



Key Accountabilities

 

  • Partners and collaborates with management in designing, planning and implementing benefit programs, policies and procedures. ​
  • Ensures programs meet client needs, comply with legal requirements and are competitive and cost effective. 
  • Explain features, advantages, and disadvantages of various policies to promote sale of insurance plans. ​
  • Confer with clients to obtain and provide information when claims are made on a policy. ​
  • Call on policyholders to deliver and explain policy. ​
  • Seek out new clients and develop clientele by networking and generate lists of prospective clients. ​
  • Sell various types of insurance policies to businesses and individuals on behalf of vendor companies, including life, medical and dental insurance or specialized policies. ​
  • Acts as a liaison with the vendors for all Health & Welfare programs such as fully-insured medical, self-insured medical, prescription drug, dental, vision, life and disability to ensure optimal productivity and performance expectations – ensuring they are set up and being administered as expected and participants are getting the best level of service. ​
  • Serves as a point of escalation for questions on coverage, eligibility and other benefit matters. ​
  • Develop marketing strategies to compete with other individuals or companies who sell insurance. ​
  • Monitor plans to ensure compliance with federal and state laws including FMLA, HIPAA, ERISA, COBRA, and Healthcare Reform. ​
  • Responsible for coordinating and supervising day-to-day activities within the service area
  • Directs service employee/​s in area of researching, analyzing, evaluating, and administering group benefit programs covering group life, accident and health insurance, retirement, and other benefit programs. ​
  • Implements benefit programs, policies and procedures. ​
  • Supervises the archival and retrieval of benefit records and documents. ​
  • Evaluates and improves the structure, processes and tools within the benefits function for optimal efficiency and effectiveness. ​
  • Perform administrative tasks, such as maintaining records and handling policy renewals.
  • Provide leadership, direction and support to member/​s of the Benefit team. ​
  • Provides input for performance, development, coaching of staff and goal-setting for direct reports. ​ Provides training to new members of the team. ​

 

Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s degree in Business-related field and/or equivalent experience in the insurance industry.
  • Current insurance Indiana license or ability to obtain immediately required.
  • Proficient knowledge of benefit design and set-up, administration, and regulations related to ERISA, HIPAA, COBRA, FMLA, ACA. ​
  • Must have understanding of applicable legal reporting. ​
  • A self-starter with initiative with strong customer/​client orientation; ability to facilitate discussions to resolve issues, obtain consensus and drive to conclusion. ​
  • Professional designation preferred; appropriate designations include Certified Benefits Professional (CBP), Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS), Group Benefits Associate (GBA), Retirement Plans Associate (RPA), or Tax Exempt & Governmental Plan Consultant (TGPC). ​

Work Environment


This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, mobile devices – phones/tablets, photocopier, scanners, etc.

The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.

 

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work


Some flexibility in hours is allowed, but the employee must be available during the “core” work hours of 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.


Travel


This position requires frequent travel - up to 70%. When travel is necessary, it is generally outside of the local area in a range up to 4 hours from headquarters.
