DEPARTMENT SUMMARY: The Social Services Department works as part of a multi-disciplinary team to assess the needs of patients and families, provide appropriate resource referrals, provide supportive counseling as needed, coordinate discharge planning and provide other identified services as needed to support those affected by chronic or acute illness.

The Spiritual Care Department works as a part of a multi-disciplinary team to provide spiritual and pastoral services that supports, respects, and honors patients, families and staff’s spiritual practices in a culturally appropriate manner. Those services include but are not limited to emotional and spiritual support, grief and loss support, spiritual reflection, prayer and blessings, arranging contact with faith groups, and performing religious rites or rituals. They can participate and provide assistance with family conferences, new or difficult diagnosis, pre-surgery visits, ethical reflection, comfort care, advanced directives, end of life situations, organ donations, and debriefing staff involved with difficult cases. They provide 24/7 coverage to Bend, Redmond, Madras, and Prineville hospitals.

POSITION OVERVIEW: The Manager of Acute Social Services and Spiritual Care is responsible for the overall planning, budgeting, staffing, performance, and operation of Acute Social Work Services. This position manages caregivers in Acute Social Services and Spiritual Care throughout the health system.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES:

Responsible and accountable for successful daily operation of the Acute Social Services and Spiritual Care departments.

Assists the department director with long-term, strategic planning.

Assists with quality, customer service, and regulatory (Joint Commission, etc.) compliance oversight.

Acts as liaison to other hospital departments and outside agencies.

Provides productivity oversight and review.

Demonstrates advanced knowledge and analysis of social work practice issues. Maintains / builds clinical skills and expertise for service by staying current in developments and knowledge of practice area.

Promotes a patient-centered environment by clarifying, integrating, and coordinating the roles within Care Coordination conducting leadership rounds with patients and families performing service recovery in response to patient or medical staff concerns or complaints in order to provide a world-class patient experience.

Creates, inspires, and implements a department culture and leadership that embraces SCHS’s vision. Coaches and leads staff to achieve and exceed the standards required to accomplish this. Continually evaluates and adjusts the steps necessary to meet this vision and motivates staff to achieve this in their daily work.

Responsible for budget development, regular monitoring, accountability and meeting all operational targets for all areas within span of control.

Hires, directs, coaches and monitors the performance of all direct reports, to develop and maintain a high-performance team that meets organizational and department goals.

Monitors and ensures all direct reports are current with compliance and safety requirements. Implements and manages all organizational safety directives and goals.

Provides and oversees team’s delivery of customer service in a manner that promotes goodwill, is timely, efficient, and accurate.

Collaborates with teams to review processes and identify/implement opportunities for improvements, applying Lean principles, concepts and tools.

Supports the vision, mission, and values of the organization in all respects.

Supports the Lean principles of continuous improvement with energy and enthusiasm, functioning as a champion of change.

Provides and maintains a safe environment for caregivers, patients, and guests.

Conducts all activities with the highest standards of professionalism and confidentiality. Complies with all applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures, supporting the organization’s corporate integrity efforts by acting in an ethical and appropriate manner, reporting known or suspected violation of applicable rules, and cooperating fully with all organizational investigations and proceedings.

May perform additional duties of similar complexity within the organization, as required or assigned.

EDUCATION:           

Required: Master’s degree in mental health related field.

Preferred: Psychology or Social Work degree.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION:

Required: LCSW, licensure commensurate with degree. Must meet all requirements of Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP) per state guidelines. Valid Oregon driver’s license and ability to meet St. Charles Health System driving requirements. Ability to travel to business functions/trainings/meetings and all St. Charles Health System worksites.

Required: Minimum five (5) years of related experience to include a minimum of one (1) year of leadership experience.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: 

Continually (75% or more): Use of clear and audible speaking voice and the ability to hear normal speech level.  

Frequently (50%): Sitting, standing, walking, lifting 1-10 pounds, keyboard operation. 

Occasionally (25%): Bending, climbing stairs, reaching overhead, carrying/pushing or pulling 1-10 pounds, grasping/squeezing.  

Rarely (10%):  Stooping/kneeling/crouching, lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling 11-25 pounds, operation of a motor vehicle. 

Never (0%):  Climbing ladder/step-stool, lifting/carrying/pushing or pulling 25-50 pounds, ability to hear whispered speech level.
