Job Description
Ready to shape the next generation of cutting tool solutions? Join a global team where materials science, innovation, and collaboration come together to create products that make a real impact.
If you're curious, hands-on, and energized by turning ideas into results, this could be the next step in your R&D career.
SENIOR R&D ENGINEER
About the job
As part of our Grade team, you help develop new grades for our Solid Round Tools product areas by turning application knowledge into material properties – working with substrates, coatings, and pre- and post-treatment methods. In this senior R&D role, you bring your experience and perspective to strengthen our development work, support collaboration across teams, and continuously improve how we work. You also play an important role in connecting with other divisions across the Machining business area, building strong cross-functional partnerships that help turn ideas into innovation.
Your responsibilities include:
Driving development and innovation in PVD, pre- and post-treatment methods, and solid milling.
Supporting development initiatives in cemented carbide technology, drilling, and threading.
Identifying new opportunities to strengthen and expand our product offering, both internally and externally.
Working closely with product development, surface and coating teams, product management, global product specialists, and production to move ideas forward.
This position is based in Lottum, Netherlands. Some travel is included, as your team is globally distributed and your work connects with colleagues and stakeholders across borders.
Your profile
You have a solid foundation in materials science and hands-on experience from relevant R&D work, ideally within coatings, surface treatment, or cutting tool materials. You hold a master’s or PhD degree (preferably) in Materials Science, Physics, Chemistry, or a related field. Experience with PVD technologies such as arc evaporation and magnetron sputtering, cemented carbide technology, and material characterization is highly valuable. Knowledge of cutting technology, especially within solid milling, is a plus, while familiarity with drilling and threading is an advantage.
You communicate confidently in English and enjoy working in an international environment where collaboration, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement are part of everyday work.
On the personal side, you’re curious, collaborative, and motivated by solving real technical challenges. You bring structure and drive to your work, while staying open to new ideas and different perspectives. With a proactive mindset and a genuine team spirit, you contribute to both strong results and a positive working environment.
