What You’ll Do
As a Recreation Specialist for HELP USA's new Brooklyn, New York, family shelter, you will work under the supervision of the Recreation Coordinator and lead school-age children living in our shelter in developmentally appropriate activities. You’ll also participate in community outreach to obtain in-kind donations, service linkages, and other resources for the children in our program.
Some of the activities you’ll lead are:
STEM projects.
Arts and Crafts.
Computer literacy.
Homework help and education support.
Development of life skills.
Your responsibilities will include:
Maintaining a safe and healthy environment for all participants in recreational activities.
Performing other duties as assigned by supervisory staff.
You’re a great fit for this role if:
You are creative, responsible, patient, kind, and caring.
Proven experience in supporting children with autism spectrum disorder or other developmental disabilities through inclusive, developmentally suitable, and trauma-informed methods. ABA-informed experience is a plus, but not mandatory.
Enjoy working with children.
Have strong organizational and time management skills.
Have a valid US driver’s license.
Have an Associate’s degree.
