Job Description

Crystal Lake School District 47 currently has an opening for an Special Education Adaptive Physical Education Teacher. The goals of this position are to coordinate a modified physical education program that will teach students physical education who require additional support and are unable to access the general education setting and/ or curriculum. The Adaptive Physical Education Teacher uses specialized instructional methodologies to meet the individual needs of students with severe disabilities in a small and/or large group environment.

 

ASSIGNED RESPONSIBILITIES 
    Provide consultation and direct services in Adaptive Physical Education techniques
    Design programs to meet individual student needs in physical fitness, gross motor skills, and perceptual motor skills, as specified on the IEP
    Participate in the IEP process from referral to implementation, including assessments, report writing, IEP meetings, and development of goals and objectives
    Evaluate and monitor student progress
    Maintain accurate written records of progress, goals, and objectives, attendance, and parent contacts
    Stay current on recent research, trends, and development in Adaptive Physical Education.
    Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships
    Write evaluation reports and share with school-based teams and caregivers
    Develop and deliver IEP goals, accommodations, and services in collaboration with the team to support students' growth and development in the area of physical education
    Collect data to document students' progress and performance toward their goals.
    Select, prepare, create, and modify lesson plans and instructional materials to meet individual student Adaptive Physical Education needs
    Attend all meetings and trainings as requested
    Maintain student confidentiality
    Comply with timelines, laws, and regulations as they relate to district, state, and federal policies and procedures

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS
    Valid Illinois Professional Educator License
    Physical Education Endorsement
    Approval of Adapted Physical Education (PPE)
    Bachelor's Degree in Education

 

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
    Demonstrate high levels of flexibility, effective interpersonal communication skills, articulation, concentration, confidentiality, and organization
    Physical requirements include sitting, standing, bending, walking and lifting equipment and materials
