About Emirates Global Aluminium

Emirates Global Aluminium is the world’s biggest ‘premium aluminium’ producer and the largest industrial company in the United Arab Emirates outside the oil and gas industry.  EGA is an integrated aluminium producer, with operations on four continents from bauxite mining to the production of cast primary aluminium and recycling. EGA employs over 7,000 of these people including more than 1,200 UAE Nationals. EGA operates aluminium smelters in Jebel Ali and Al Taweelah in the United Arab Emirates, an alumina refinery in Al Taweelah, a bauxite mine and associated export facilities in the Republic of Guinea, a speciality foundry in high strength recycled aluminium in Germany, and a recycling plant in the United States.

JOB PURPOSE:
The purpose of the "On the Job Coach" (OJC) role is to enhance the operational and technical capabilities of EGA employees through direct, hands-on coaching and mentoring. The OJC is responsible for facilitating the On-Job Excellence Program (OJEP) by spending the majority of their time in the field, working closely with employees to assess their skills, identify gaps, and provide targeted coaching to improve their proficiency in specific operational and maintenance tasks. This role is also crucial in capturing and transferring tacit knowledge, ensuring that critical skills and expertise are preserved and shared within the organization, thereby supporting continuous improvement and sustaining operational excellence. The OJC plays a key role in maintaining high safety standards, aligning employee development with organizational goals, and certifying mastery levels to ensure that employees are fully competent and capable in their roles.

 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
ESG and EHS Compliance Maintenance
Conform to both EHS and ESG standards, upholding ethical and safety practices.
Integral to enterprise responsibility, this role enforces compliance with environmental and social governance policies

Technical Skill Assessment
Conduct thorough assessments of operational employees’ technical skills.
Responsible for evaluating employees' technical skills through structured observation and assessment cycles. This includes providing feedback and certifying the mastery level of employees in specific operational tasks, ensuring they meet the organization’s standards of operational excellence.

Development Coaching
 Deliver targeted coaching to enhance employees' technical proficiency. Adapt coaching methods to meet the varying needs of employees and operational demands.
Provide hands-on coaching to employees, focusing on skill tuning for specific tasks identified during assessments. This involves working closely with employees in the field, offering real-time guidance and support to improve their technical abilities and operational efficiency. Adjust coaching styles and content to suit the diverse learning styles, skill levels, and job roles of employees. This flexibility ensures that coaching is effective and relevant, even as operational circumstances and requirements change.

Knowledge Capture & Transfer
Capture and document tacit knowledge to support continuous learning.
Capture critical operational knowledge from experienced employees and transfers it to newer team members through structured coaching programs. This ensures the sustainability of operational expertise within the organization and supports the development of knowledge resources for future use.
Performance Monitoring & Reporting
Monitor employee progress and report on skill development outcomes. Certify the mastery level of employees in their operational roles.
 Track the progress of employees' skill development, generating detailed reports that highlight areas of improvement and focus for the next review cycle. These reports are shared with area leaders to align coaching efforts with operational priorities and strategic goals. Determine whether an employee has achieved mastery in their operational role. This involves rigorous assessment and validation of skills, ensuring that only those who meet the high standards of proficiency are certified as masters in their respective tasks.
Development Recommendations
 Identify and recommend additional training programs to address skill gaps.
 Based on observations and assessments, identify skill gaps and recommends formal training programs or other development options to address these deficiencies. This proactive approach ensures that employees continue to develop the necessary skills to meet operational demands effectively.
Identify opportunities for cost and efficiency improvements
 Identify and analyze opportunities to enhance cost efficiency and operational effectiveness within the organization. This role involves gathering data, conducting assessments, and suggesting actionable improvements.

Maintain internal and external stakeholder engagement
 Support effective communication and engagement with internal and external stakeholders. This role involves regular interactions, ensuring stakeholders are informed and their needs are addressed promptly.

AUTHORITY/ DECISION MAKING:
 Works and reports to his / her Manager on matters such as approvals for training budgets, changes to policies and procedures while working in the assigned plant area
 Makes decisions related to the Coaching and assessment of trainees within agreed procedures and standards.
 Responsible for Coaching in assigned area, including evaluation of training in the classroom and on the plant.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:
Qualification: Diploma or technical diploma in relevant discipline
Experience: Minimum of 15 years’ experience in EGA with 10 years in current role
