Job Description

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and highly motivated doctor, who is committed to excellence in Clinical breast work to join our dynamic team. This post will be for a fixed term period of 12 months in the first instance, to help carry out surgical procedures and breast clinics at Queen Alexandra Hospital. There are additional opportunities for the successful candidate to be involved with the surgical management of thyroid disease and skin cancer, if desired.

The breast unit carries out screening and symptomatic assessments, treating about 700 cancers annually and is an ABS/BAPRAS accredited National Oncoplastic and Reconstructive Training Centre.

Participation in the on call rota is not required.

Key Responsibilities:

This replacement post exists to help provide clinical care for patients as well as providing opportunities to be involved with research and quality improvement projects within the department. The duties will consist of out-patient clinics, theatre work and contribution in the MDT meetings. Opportunities to get involved in research, audit, and innovation projects will be provided with close consultant supervision. There is no on call required. Experience in breast clinical work is desirable but additional on-going training will be provided if required. Education and training within the department is strongly encouraged.

Qualifications

 

Qualifications

  • Full GMC registration with a licence to practice
  • MBBS or equivalent
  • MRCS or equivalent
  • PLAB (if applicable)
  • ATLS (desirable)
  • BSS (desirable)
  • CCrlSP (desirable)

Clinical Experience

  • Higher professional training in General Surgery at ST3+ level
  • Higher professional training in Breast Surgery (desirable)
  • Experience of working within the NHS

Clinical Skills

  • Ability to take clear and concise case histories and good clinical examination
  • Ability to carry out appropriate surgical procedures

Understanding of clinical risk management

Knowledge

  • Able to demonstrate appropriate level of clinical knowledge
  • Willing to seek timely assistance from senior colleagues when appropriate
  • Knowledge and use of evidence based practice
  • IT skills
  • Effective, confident presentation ability
  • Experience in and outside speciality
  • Research & Audit

  • Evidence of experience of participation in research & audit is desirable
  • Willing to undertake projects leading to presentations and publications
