About the Role
Patents and other intellectual property rights are critical to Essity’s ability to innovate and maintain a competitive advantage worldwide. In this role, you will join Essity’s global Intellectual Property function, supporting the Personal Care business by protecting and developing innovations that improve people’s lives.
You will work closely with R&D, innovation, technology, and commercial teams, contributing to strategic patent decisions from early invention through product launch. The role offers exposure to a broad international stakeholder landscape and the opportunity to influence business‑critical innovation in a fast‑paced, purpose‑driven organization.
What You Will Do
- Patent Portfolio Management: Strategically manage and develop parts of Essity’s global patent portfolio aligned with business priorities
- Innovation Support: Collaborate closely with R&D, innovation, product development, technology, and marketing teams to identify, assess, and protect valuable inventions
- Freedom‑to‑Operate Analysis: Conduct and support FTO investigations to enable secure and timely product launches
- Patent Prosecution: Draft, file, and prosecute patent applications in cooperation with external counsel where relevant
- Litigation Support: Provide expert IP support in patent disputes and litigation matters
- Competitive Intelligence: Monitor and analyze competitor patent activities to support strategic decision‑making
- Continuous Improvement: Contribute to the development of efficient, modern ways of working within the global IP function
Who You Are
- A qualified Patent Agent, Patent Attorney, Intellectual Property Lawyer, or European Patent Attorney with a technical background in mechanics, physics, chemistry, or a comparable field
- At least five years of professional experience working with patents, either in‑house or in private practice, ideally within an international environment
- Strong technical and legal expertise in patent law, including patent drafting, prosecution, and freedom‑to‑operate assessments
- A collaborative, curious, and proactive professional with excellent communication skills, able to work independently while building strong relationships across cultures and functions
- Fluent in both English and Spanish, written and spoken; additional languages are considered an advantage
