Saint Theresa Catholic School (STCS) is a Catholic classical school in the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston serving students in Pre-Kindergarten through 8th Grade. STCS is a member of the Institute for Catholic Liberal Education and has been named a 2020 National Blue Ribbon School. The school is fully committed to providing an education that unites the wisdom of the classical tradition with a firm foundation in Catholic faith and morals. Located in Sugar Land, Texas, Saint Theresa Catholic School offers a rigorous liberal arts program with a strong emphasis on Latin, the study of Western Civilization, and the fine arts. General Position Summary:   
Under the supervision of the Head of School, the Learning Support & Instructional Coordinator serves as the school's instructional support specialist responsible for coordinating services that assist students who experience academic challenges within the framework of Catholic classical education.

The Coordinator collaborates with faculty, administration, and families to support student learning through the coordination of Catholic Accommodation Plans, targeted academic intervention�particularly in reading and language development�and guidance to teachers in supporting diverse learners within the classroom. The Learning Support & Instructional Coordinator also oversees standardized testing accommodations and assists in monitoring student academic progress.

Through consultation, coaching, and targeted intervention, the Coordinator supports the work of classroom teachers and helps ensure that students receive appropriate academic support while maintaining the integrity and rigor of the classical curriculum.

Applicants must hold a bachelor's degree; a master's degree in reading, special education, language therapy, or a related field is preferred. This position is hired and evaluated by the Head of School.

Essential Job Functions:
    Support, implement, and uphold the mission, philosophy, and Catholic identity of Saint Theresa Catholic School and the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston
    Live a life consistent with Catholic educational values and give clear evidence of living by Gospel principles
    Serve as a visible witness to the teachings of the Catholic Church through personal conduct, professional responsibilities, and relationships
    Participate actively in building up the faith community of the school and parish
    Coordinate the school's Learning Support Program in alignment with the mission and academic expectations of Catholic classical education
    Provide instructional support and guidance to teachers in addressing the needs of struggling learners within the classroom
    Assist faculty in identifying students who may be experiencing academic difficulties and collaborate with teachers to develop instructional strategies that support student success
    Develop and oversee Catholic Accommodation Plans when appropriate documentation is provided
    Interpret psychoeducational evaluations and assist in determining appropriate accommodations for students
    Monitor the implementation of accommodations within the classroom and support teachers in effectively implementing those accommodations
    Serve as the school's SSD Coordinator and oversee the implementation of standardized testing accommodations
    Coordinate testing accommodations and assist with the organization of standardized testing processes
    Provide targeted small-group or individual intervention for students experiencing difficulty in foundational literacy skills, including reading, spelling, and written language development
    Monitor the progress of students receiving intervention or accommodations and adjust support strategies as needed
    Screen students who may be experiencing learning difficulties and assist in identifying appropriate support strategies or referrals
    Meet with students as needed to support academic progress and encourage appropriate self-advocacy
    Lead collaborative meetings with teachers and parents to discuss student progress and academic support plans
    Provide academic coaching and support for students experiencing academic challenges
    Assist the Head of School in reviewing academic data to identify students who may require additional instructional support
    Maintain accurate records and documentation in accordance with school policy and confidentiality requirements
    Participate fully in faculty meetings, professional development, committees, and assigned school initiatives
    Adhere to all school and archdiocesan policies, including confidentiality, code of conduct, and professional expectations

Important Job Functions:
 
   Collaborate with teachers to support differentiated instruction and effective classroom strategies
    Provide professional guidance and support to faculty regarding learning differences and instructional strategies for struggling learners
    Encourage students in developing perseverance, confidence, and responsibility in their learning
    Participate in school liturgies, parish events, and activities essential to the role
    Supervise students during instructional and non-instructional activities as assigned
    Engage in ongoing professional learning related to literacy development, learning
    Perform all other related duties as assigned by the Head of School or designee

    Reports directly to the Head of School

Internal Contacts:
    Effectively communicates with other school staff

External Contacts:
    Effectively communicates with parents, volunteers, adults, as well as other schools, churches and employees throughout the diocese. 

Working Conditions and/or Physical Requirements:
    Required to work some nights and weekends 
    Required to manage high to moderate levels of stress 
    Required to work in standard classroom and school conditions
    Required to lift or carry classroom supplies, textbooks, furniture, and equipment 
    Required to maintain composure and avoid inappropriate displays of emotion 
    Required to sit, stand, bend, stoop, reach, grab, pull, hear, see, and speak on a daily basis 
    Required to perform repetitive physical tasks such as computer keyboarding, writing, and reading 
    Required to monitor students in a variety of locations including those with noise, activity, and inclement weather 

Travel Requirements:
    No travel required other than field trips 

Education and Experience Preferred:
    Bachelor's or Master's degree from an accredited college or university in Education, Reading, Special Education, Language Therapy, or a related field
    Experience working with students with learning differences or dyslexia
    Experience interpreting psychoeducational evaluations and developing accommodation plans
    Classroom teaching experience preferred
    Training in structured literacy or dyslexia intervention preferred

Knowledge and Skills Preferred:
    Knowledge of the basic teachings of the Catholic Church
    Knowledge of child development, literacy development, and learning differences
    Able to communicate effectively in both written and verbal form
    Able to work well with others in the school community
    Skill in handling multiple tasks simultaneously
    Skill in organizing and relating information in an understandable format
    Skill in job appropriate technology
    Skill in critical thinking and planning
 

FLSA Designation:  Exempt             School Classification: Part-time
