Position Overview

AMS Impact Group is the education management organization supporting the Academies of Math and Science (AMS), a high-performing network of K–8 public charter schools serving students across Arizona, Arkansas, and Nevada.

For more than 20 years, AMS has focused on delivering rigorous instruction, strong school culture, and equitable access to high-quality education for students in historically underserved communities. Today, AMS serves nearly 10,000 students and continues to expand its impact across multiple states.

AMS Impact Group is seeking a results-driven and mission-aligned Chief Schools Officer (CSO) to serve as a key member of the executive leadership team. The CSO is responsible for the overall performance of all schools across the network, including academic outcomes, enrollment and retention, and leadership development.

This role requires a proven operator—someone who has successfully led schools, managed school leaders, and driven measurable results at scale. The CSO will be accountable for ensuring strong academic performance, full and stable enrollment, and high-performing, well-supported teams across all campuses.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own and drive academic performance across all schools, including proficiency, growth, and state accountability outcomes

  • Ensure consistency of performance across multiple states and school sites

  • Oversee student persistence and staff retention strategies across the network

  • Establish clear performance metrics and hold leaders accountable for results

Leadership & Talent Development

  • Directly manage Directors of Schools and other senior instructional leaders

  • Build, coach, and evaluate school leaders to ensure high performance and alignment with network expectations

  • Develop and maintain a strong pipeline of future school and network leaders

Academic & Instructional Strategy

  • Oversee academic strategy, curriculum implementation, and assessment systems

  • Ensure consistent, high-quality instruction across all campuses

  • Drive measurable improvements in student achievement, particularly in Title I communities

  • Partner with academic teams to refine and strengthen instructional models

Special Education & Student Services

  • Oversee Special Education (SPED) programming across all states

  • Ensure compliance with all federal and state requirements

  • Build systems that support both compliance and strong academic outcomes for students

School Operations & Enrollment

  • Partner with operational leaders to ensure strong execution across all campuses

  • Own student enrollment, retention, and family engagement strategies

  • Ensure schools are fully staffed and operationally prepared

  • Support development of strong school culture and family-facing systems

Qualifications & Experience

Required Qualifications

  • Proven success as a Principal in a Title I school environment

  • Experience managing school leaders (e.g., Director of Schools, Principal Manager, or equivalent role)

  • Demonstrated track record of:

    • Strong academic outcomes within state accountability systems

    • Increasing or sustaining student enrollment

    • High staff retention and strong team performance

  • Ability to manage performance across multiple schools or regions

  • Strong analytical, leadership, and decision-making skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in charter school networks or multi-site leadership environments

  • Experience working across multiple state accountability systems

  • Oversight of academics, operations, or Special Education at scale

  • Experience leading school turnaround efforts or scaling high-performing schools

Leadership Profile

The ideal candidate:

  • Sets a high bar for performance and holds leaders accountable to results

  • Uses data to diagnose challenges and drive timely, effective action

  • Makes clear, decisive decisions related to people, performance, and strategy

  • Builds systems that ensure consistency and scalability across schools

  • Thrives in complex, multi-state environments while maintaining focus on outcomes

Success in This Role

Success will be measured by:

  • Schools consistently meeting or exceeding state accountability benchmarks

  • Enrollment targets met or exceeded across all campuses

  • Strong student persistence in Title I communities

  • High retention of school leaders and staff

  • Development of a strong pipeline of high-performing principals

Why Join AMS Impact Group?
