The role

ALS Geochemistry in Townsville is seeking Senior Laboratory Assistants to become part of a team that strives to exceed customer expectations by delivering quality results on time.

This is a full-time position primarily responsible for the operation of ICP-AES and AAS instrumentation.

The successful candidate will be required to work an 8-hour shift, Monday to Friday, on a rotating Day Shift and Afternoon Shift roster.

The day to day

The successful candidate will undertake a range of duties, including:

  • Analysis of geochemical samples and Fire Assay using AAS instrumentation.

  • Performing instrument and equipment calibration and maintenance as required.

  • Troubleshooting instrument and quality-related issues.

  • Preparation, calibration, and testing of standards and instrument QC solutions.

  • Reviewing QC raw data and analytical results.

  • Ensuring client turnaround times are consistently met.

  • Working autonomously once training has been completed.

  • Assisting with other duties as required as the role develops.

  • Safe handling of hazardous chemicals and solvents

 The essentials

  • A Certificate IV or Diploma in Laboratory Techniques, or a Bachelor of Science degree, will be highly regarded.

  • A minimum of 2 years' experience working in a digestion and/or instrumentation laboratory environment.

  • Previous experience with ICP-OES, AAS, and/or ICP-MS instrumentation is desirable.

  • Willingness to work rotating shifts.

  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow established procedures.

  • Good numerical, verbal, and written communication skills.

  • Highly task-oriented, self-motivated, and able to effectively manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously.

  • A strong work ethic and the ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment involving manual handling and repetitive tasks.

  • Flexible, reliable, and dependable, with the ability to meet the demands of a high-volume laboratory environment.

  • Willingness to be mobile within the ALS network of Laboratories
