Job Description
A DAY IN THE LIFE
As a Manager I – Estimating (Storage), you will lead the preconstruction and estimating efforts for utility-scale battery energy storage projects from the earliest stages of project development through handoff to the construction team. A typical day involves managing estimating teams, reviewing project scopes and technical requirements, coordinating bid strategies, and ensuring estimates are accurate, competitive, and aligned with client expectations. You'll work closely with engineering, procurement, project management, suppliers, subcontractors, and clients to evaluate risks, identify opportunities, and develop winning proposals. In addition to overseeing bid preparation and contract negotiations, you'll play a key role in creating a seamless transition from preconstruction to project execution by coordinating handoffs, vendor relationships, and project setup activities. This role also drives continuous improvement of estimating processes, systems, and best practices while mentoring team members and supporting the growth of Blattner's energy storage business.
STEP INTO THE ROLE
- Displays personal and professional ethics and complies with and enforces company policies and procedures during project estimates, including utilizing company estimating software, performing bid reviews, etc. Takes personal responsibility to ensure that a quality bid has been produced.
- Develop department strategy and vision with regular reporting of relevant industry precedents and procedures.
- Advises and supports Manager Estimating with estimate planning in preparation for project pre-bid meeting, schedule creation, and proposal preparation.
- Supports the Director of Estimating and Vice President, Procurement to develop Mega project review document for Executive approval(s).
- Supervises and provides development of subordinates through mentoring, formal training and exposure to diverse work experiences.
- Verifies that the team identifies and calculates cost of project quality and safety requirements (training, PPE) and determines JHA risks and includes costs in estimates.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
- 5 or more years of applicable preconstruction and/or construction experience or equivalent combinations of technical training and/or related experience in estimating, project management, contract negotiations and sound construction methods; with an emphasis on safety and quality.
- Bachelor’s degree in construction related discipline.
WHAT SETS YOU APART
- Experience supporting utility-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects from development through construction.
- Strong understanding of preconstruction, estimating, procurement, and project handoff processes.
- Experience developing conceptual, budgetary, and detailed estimates for large-scale energy infrastructure projects.
