The Opportunity

CACI is seeking a Network Engineer I to join a highly skilled engineering team supporting the Merlin program, maintaining and advancing secure communications infrastructure. This person will support mission-critical environments by assisting with the operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of enterprise network infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in networking principles, hands-on experience with Cisco networking technologies, and a desire to grow within a collaborative engineering environment.

Work alongside senior engineers to configure, optimize, and support network operations across classified and unclassified environments. Contribute to the continuous improvement of network capabilities through documentation, troubleshooting, and infrastructure modernization efforts. This position requires being in the office 100% and is located in Sterling, VA.

Responsibilities:

  • Install, configure, and maintain network infrastructure components, including switches, routers, wireless access points, and firewalls.
  • Support network deployments, upgrades, infrastructure migrations, and site implementations.
  • Configure and troubleshoot Layer 2 and Layer 3 networking components, including VLANs, IP addressing, routing, DHCP, DNS, and NAT.
  • Configure and support Cisco Catalyst switching environments.
  • Perform packet captures and traffic analysis for network diagnostics and troubleshooting.
  • Monitor network health and assist with identifying performance and reliability issues.
  • Assist with firewall administration and troubleshooting under the guidance of senior engineers.
  • Maintain and document device configurations, network diagrams, and IP address inventories.
  • Provide technical input during meetings and contribute recommendations for network improvements.
  • Collaborate using Jira, Confluence, and other ticketing and documentation tools.
  • Support Linux and Windows networking environments, including interface configuration, routes, and connectivity troubleshooting.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Information Science, Computer Science, or related field.
  • 0–3 years of experience supporting, maintaining, or troubleshooting network infrastructure in an academic, internship, lab, or professional environment.
  • Cisco CCNA certification preferred, or equivalent networking knowledge.
  • Understanding of TCP/IP, VLANs, subnetting, routing, switching, DHCP, DNS, and NAT.
  • Hands-on experience with Cisco networking equipment through coursework, internships, labs, or professional experience.
  • Experience troubleshooting network connectivity and performance issues.
  • Familiarity with packet capture and analysis tools such as Wireshark.
  • Basic knowledge of Linux and Windows operating systems.
  • Strong understanding of Layer 1–3 networking concepts and troubleshooting methodologies.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and customer service skills.

Desired:

  • Experience working in an MSP, NOC, enterprise IT, or similar operational environment.
  • Experience configuring Cisco Catalyst switches.
  • Exposure to AWS or Azure networking concepts.
  • Familiarity with Python, PowerShell, or other scripting languages used for automation.
  • Knowledge of enterprise infrastructure documentation and diagramming tools.
  • Progress toward advanced networking certifications such as CCNP Enterprise.
  • Experience supporting network infrastructure in a DoD or enterprise environment.

Pay Range:

There are a host of factors that can influence final salary including, but not limited to, geographic location, Federal Government contract labor categories and contract wage rates, relevant prior work experience, specific skills and competencies, education, and certifications. The proposed salary range for this position is:

$61,100 - $122,200
