Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Specialist
Appointment: Mental Health Therapists shall be appointed annually, upon the recommendation of the ACS Project Director, Chief Academic Officer, or Superintendent.
Qualifications:
- Shall hold a Bachelor's Degree or higher from an accredited college or university in psychology, social work, human services or other equivalent certification.
- Must be able to provide group psycho-educational skills lessons to students independently.
- Must be able to work flexible hours to meet program needs and requirements.
- Must have experience working with children.
- Must have strong written and oral communication.
- Shall demonstrate the ability to work effectively and positively with students, colleagues, and other adults.
- Shall demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, teachers, and administrative staff.
- Shall carry out all the required duties and responsibilities as required by the ACS Helps Grant.
Job Goal:
To provide mental health support services to students, parents, and school staff. A social emotional learning specialist must provide their services to the particular needs of each student, student group, and each situation; provide expertise, and direction to positively affect the educational outcomes and well-being of students in need.
General Duties and Responsibilities:
- Shall carry out all responsibilities and duties as identified in the federal ACS Helps Grant without undue checking or follow-up by supervisors.
- Shall determine appropriate actions within clearly defined guidelines.
- Shall present a positive image of the school and self to the students, parents, and staff.
- Shall communicate genuine care and concern for the individual growth and development of each student and staff member.
- Shall react positively to directives.
- Shall maintain confidentiality, verbal and written, of student's situations and educational records.
- Shall strive to continuously improve professional competence.
- Shall adhere to all School Board of Education Policies and Procedures.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
- Shall analyze SEL and mental health data to determine the students to be served.
- Shall provide support for students utilizing the relaxation room.
- Shall work with district mental health therapist and ACS helps director to coordinate student support.
- Shall create a schedule of small group psychoeducational lessons and adhere to the schedule to provide skills to students who need it.
- Shall implement recommended behavioral interventions for students.
- Shall provide necessary documentation and data to the Project Director or Chief Academic Officer in a timely manner and as required by the grant.
- Shall support the mental health and SEL screening for students.
- Shall adhere to laws, policies, and authority.
- Shall perform other duties related to the position as assigned by supervisors.
Days of Employment: 196 days
Terms of Employment: The contract is for the minimum school term as reflected in the school calendar for the current year and district-approved salary schedule.
