The Financial Planning team operates through Odlum Brown Financial Services Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Odlum Brown Limited (Odlum Brown) providing financial planning, retirement, tax and estate planning, and insurance products exclusively to Odlum Brown clients.
THE OPPORTUNITYWe have an opportunity for a Tax and Estate Planner to join our award-winning firm in our Vancouver office.
WHAT YOU’LL DOReporting to the Vice President of Financial Planning, you will work in a collaborative team environment to advise clients and Investment Advisors on a variety of tax, estate and personal finance-related queries and strategies. This includes the review and presentation of financial projections using leading software and advising clients on financial, retirement and estate planning goals.
The ideal candidate is a proactive and engaged people person who takes pride in helping clients navigate the complexities of financial, tax, and estate planning. They have a strategic mindset, attention to detail, and strives to be the gold standard in client service excellence, with a passion and proven history of forming bonds and working with clients and business families.
This role requires the successful candidate to work onsite in the office for a minimum of four days per week.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Collect and analyze information pertinent to clients’ financial goals
Offer insight on clients’ financial, tax, retirement and estate planning goals
Prepare and review financial projections using leading software
Review and interpret financial projections with clients and Investment Advisors
Identify potential tax minimization and planning opportunities for clients
Explain rules and concepts to clients and Investment Advisors relating to personal, corporate, and trust income tax, registered and non-registered accounts, trusts and estates, pensions and government benefits
Develop timely tax and personal finance-related articles and bulletins
Participate in the preparation and delivery of internal seminars and external presentations
COMPETENCIES
Advising and Coaching – Use knowledge and relationships to assess the needs of internal or external stakeholders, come up with recommendations, and provide coaching or advice that helps them solve challenges, grow and/or reach their goals
Customer Relationship Management – Build, manage, and nurture client relationships, leveraging CRM tools to track interactions, understand client needs, and deliver consistent service
Financial Planning – Develop comprehensive financial strategies or recommend products that align resources or assets with clients' long-term goals, balancing income, investments, savings, and expenditures
Process Improvement and Documentation – Uncover, understand, document, optimize and communicate processes to make them more efficient, effective, and consistent
Modelling and Forecasting – Envision, build, maintain, update and share financial models and forecasting tools that can project or extrapolate data trends to inform business decision making, planning and strategy
Regulatory Knowledge – Understand and apply relevant laws, regulations, and standards to meet legal and ethical requirements and reduce risk for clients and the firm
Risk Assessment – Identify, analyze, and evaluate risks to make decisions and take actions that manage their likelihood and impact on achieving our objectives for the benefit of our clients, firm, and communities
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
Professional accounting designation (CPA) and a minimum of five years post-designation tax experience required
Certified Financial Planner (CFP) designation preferred and required within two years of start date
Completion of the CPA In-Depth tax program would be an asset
Strong business acumen, judgment and savvy; excellent analytical and decision-making skills
Superior written and verbal communication skills
Self-motivated with a clear vision of what is required to be part of a high-performance team
A team player with a proven track record of building trusting and productive relationships with colleagues and clients alike
Other professional qualifications/designations relating to trusts and estates (TEP) and/or family enterprises (FEA) would be an asset

This role has an expected salary and commission range of $125,000 – $150,000/year, plus the potential for bonuses.
