Designer – CGMT (Color, Graphics, Materials, Trend)

What will you do?

A day in the life of a Designer, CGMT at JanSport looks a little like this.

You will drive brand-right color, print, graphic, and material concepts across product categories, grounded in macro and micro trend research and consumer insights. You will manage key aspects of the design process—from trend research and concept development through execution and production—while partnering cross-functionally to deliver commercially relevant, consumer-driven product. This role requires a balance of creative vision, analytical thinking, and collaborative leadership.

Let’s break down that day-in-the-life a bit more.

  • Drive development of color/material/graphic/trend direction including seasonal concept
  • Conduct and apply macro and micro trend research, translating insights into actionable design direction
  • Develop original prints and graphics, build color palettes, and material strategies aligned to seasonal and merchandising needs
  • Partner with Merchandising and cross-functional teams to build cohesive seasonal stories and product assortments
  • Create production-ready artwork and technical files (repeats, placements, colorways, material specifications, etc.)
  • Maintain design intent through development by reviewing strike-offs, lab dips, and samples
  • Present design concepts and trend insights with clear rationale to key stakeholders
  • Manage multiple projects with increasing independence and accountability
  • Contribute to team culture through collaboration, knowledge sharing, and informal mentorship support

What do you need to succeed?

We all have unique skills that we bring to work and celebrate every day. For this role, there are foundation skills you’ll need to succeed and excel. Additionally, while formal education in Textile, Fashion or Graphic Design is great to have, we are most interested in your 3-5 years of experience and professional achievements. 

The foundation skills you will need in this position are:

  • Strong portfolio demonstrating:
    • Trend-informed design thinking
    • Print, color, and material application
    • Concept-to-product execution
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign); CLO 3D a plus
  • Solid understanding of product creation lifecycle and development processes
  • Strong communication, presentation, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong trend intuition and analytical mindset (macro + micro)
  • Ability to translate insights into commercial, consumer-relevant product
  • Balance of creative exploration and business acumen
  • Demonstrates ownership, accountability, and positive team influence
  • Collaborative, curious, and forward-thinking

There are also a few skills that are not required but preferred.

  • Outdoor, lifestyle, or streetwear product experience
  • Experience building seasonal color/material assortments or systems
  • Familiarity with trend platforms (WGSN, etc.) and global market awareness
  • Interest in youth culture, travel, and exploration

Hiring Range:

$82,080.00 USD - $102,600.00 USD annually

Incentive Potential: This position is eligible for additional compensation awards that may include an annual incentive plan, sales incentive, or commission potential. Specific details of the additional compensation eligibility for this position will be provided during the recruiting and interview process.
