- Senior Lecturer (Clinical Education) to provide academic support, clinical teaching and pastoral care to rural medical students enrolled in the University of Sydney Doctor of Medicine Program delivered at the School of Rural Health in Dubbo, NSW
- Part-time up to 0.4 FTE fixed term until December 2026 with the possibility of extension subject to funding
- Base salary of $156,103 (Pro Rata) + 17% superannuation + clinical loading
About the opportunity
The School of Rural Health (SRH) has been delivering long term rural placements for The University of Sydney year 3 and 4 medical students in Orange and Dubbo for over 20 years. In 2022, The University of Sydney commenced delivery of its four-year graduate entry Doctor of Medicine (MD) Program in two streams; a Metropolitan stream based on the University’s Camperdown campus in Sydney, and a Dubbo stream based at the School of Rural Health in Dubbo.
We have a position available for a Senior Lecturer (Education-Focused, Clinical Education) – Academic Support who will undertake a range of duties related to the implementation of the curriculum as well as teaching and learning activities for the Doctor of Medicine (MD) Program (Dubbo Stream). In addition to teaching, this position will provide academic support and mentoring and contribute to the pastoral support of medical students in Dubbo.
This position is located at Dubbo. Limited travel between rural and metropolitan sites is a requirement of this position and therefore a driver’s license is required. Some out-of-hours work is also required for this role.

Your key responsibilities:
- contribute to outstanding educational design, delivery, evaluation and outcomes;
- undertake independent teaching and coaching of students within a simulated or real clinical setting;
- contribute to scholarship and apply clinical knowledge and expertise for improved student outcomes;
- actively contribute to the research, education and administrative activities of the discipline/School/Faculty;
- develop pragmatic teaching resources which reflect contemporary and innovative clinical practices with particular emphasis on rural practice.
- provide academic support, mentoring and learning frameworks to medical students enrolled in the Sydney Medical School Doctor of Medicine Program at Dubbo;
- lead pastoral care and support wellbeing needs of students at the Clinical School;
- fulfil Governance and Compliance requirements of the Sydney Medical Program Doctor of Medicine and the Rural Health Multidisciplinary Training Program/Murray Darling Medical Schools Program Parameters;
- support the orientation and induction of students and staff to the area.
About you
- Bachelor of Medicine (MB)/Doctor of Medicine (MD)/Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) or equivalent from a recognised tertiary institution.
- PhD in an academic field relevant to the discipline or other relevant higher academic or professional qualification.
- recognition as a Fellow of the relevant Australasian medical specialist college or equivalent as recognised by Australian Health Professional Regulation Agency (AHPRA), e.g. FANZCA, FRACP, FACEM, FRACGP, FCICM, FRANZCOG, FRANZCP.
- current registration with AHPRA or equivalent professional bodies (where relevant).
- current/recent clinical experience and knowledge of the Australian healthcare system.
- experience in a tertiary educational institution working with academics, clinicians, and students within a rural health training environment.
- significant experience supervising and mentoring others and coordinating successful team activities.
- acknowledged as playing a major role in the profession, for example by having a well-regarded leadership role in a clinical area of specialty and/or notable network of connections and strategic alliances.
- significant experience in clinical teaching and learning in an established Medical Program.
- significant experience in education design and practice.
- significant experience applying contemporary clinical teaching practices.
- experience in pastoral care in a student learning environment.
- demonstrable understanding of and commitment to rural health.
- current Working with Children Check and National Police Check.
- current driver’s license.
- compliance with the Public Health (COVID-19 Vaccination of Health Care Workers) Order 2021.
