Job Description

The UK civil Nuclear program EHS Leader is responsible for ensuring the safe, compliant, and efficient execution of civil nuclear program related activities across multiple UK sites. This role provides governance, oversight, and operational support to ensure adherence to UK regulatory requirements, Construction (Design and Management) Regulations (CDM), nuclear safety expectations, coherence across multiple sites and global corporate EHS standards. The coordinator drives culture improvement, risk reduction, and sustainability of EHS performance in all nuclear projects, global relationship with customers and key contractors leaders, for operations and related activities

1. Multi‑Site EHS Coordination in UK

  • Serve as the primary EHS focal point for nuclear operations across designated UK civil nuclear project sites, and customer locations.

  • Ensure consistent implementation of corporate EHS policies, UK nuclear safety regulations, and site‑specific requirements.

  • Conduct regular site visits, audits, and engagement tours to verify compliance and identify opportunities for improvement.

2. Nuclear Safety and Regulatory Compliance within Great UK perimeter

  • Support alignment with the Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR), Environment Agency (EA), UK HSE requirements, and relevant nuclear site licence conditions.

  • Coordinate the homogeneity, development, review, and validation of nuclear safety documentation, including RAMS, ALARP assessments, and hazard reports.

  • Maintain awareness of regulatory changes and ensure timely integration into site practices and project plans.

3. CDM Governance and UK Project Support

  • Lead or support CDM governance activities for nuclear construction, modification, or decommissioning projects. Support whenever appropriate

  • Ensure accurate identification of CDM duty holders and fulfilment of associated responsibilities (Client, Principal Contractor, Principal Designer).

  • Review construction phase plans, design risk assessments, and contractor EHS arrangements to ensure safe delivery.

4. Multi-sites Risk Reduction and Hazard Management

  • Lead structured risk reviews and bow‑tie assessments to identify, evaluate, and control critical EHS and nuclear risks.

  • Promote risk‑based decision‑making, implementation of ALARP principles, and proactive hazard mitigation strategies.

  • Support incident investigations, root‑cause analysis, and lessons learned to prevent recurrence.

  • Ensure cross-functional REX from other UK sites operations and past events/situation at risk

5. Company EHS Culture and Behavioral Improvement

  • Champion a strong EHS and nuclear safety culture through coaching, mentorship, and engagement with operational teams and contractors.

  • Facilitate training, safety conversations, and behavioral observation programs.

  • Influence leaders and stakeholders to adopt best practices and foster a “questioning attitude” and “stop‑work authority”.

6. Global EHS Policy and Standards Compliance at country level (UK)

  • Ensure UK nuclear activities align with global EHS frameworks, corporate standards, and reporting requirements.

  • Lead the local deployment of worldwide EHS initiatives, performance metrics, and continuous improvement programs.

  • Support preparation of EHS documentation for global audits, management reviews, and certification processes (ISO 45001, ISO 14001).

  • Ensure alignment and sustainability for company EHS standards and objectives across all UK sites and prospects

7. Contractor and Stakeholder Management as country leader

  • Evaluate and oversee EHS performance of contractors, suppliers, and partners operating in nuclear environments.

  • Ensure robust contractor onboarding, competency verification, and compliance with nuclear security requirements.

  • Collaborate with engineering, operations, project management, and customer teams on safe planning and execution.

 

Key Performance Indicators

  • Projects EHS Key Performance Indicators (HSPI) including contractors

  • Completion of the Sites EHS objectives;

  • Customer satisfaction surveys

  • Compliance to CDM Requirements.

Profile

1.     Education & Trainings

  • Degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Safety, Nuclear Technology, or related discipline.

  • Demonstrated experience in EHS roles within nuclear, high‑hazard, energy, or industrial environments, including multi-year experience as UK power plant site leader.

  • Strong understanding of UK nuclear regulatory frameworks (ONR, EA, HSE).

  • Knowledge of CDM 2015 Regulations and related project governance.

2.     Professional Experience

  • Strong experience in EHS power plant site leader & CDM topics within a construction environment,

  • Problem solving skills,

  • Able to navigate in an multi-cultural environment.

  • Experience driving cultural change and implementing EHS improvement programs.

  • Professional certifications desirable (IOSH, NEBOSH, NCRQ, or equivalent).

3.     Language Skills

High proficiency in English (oral & written), French as an additional advantage.
