Self-Help for the Elderly

Self-Help for the Elderly is a private community-based non-profit organization. Our mission is to promote the independence, dignity and self-worth of seniors.

We will achieve this by empowering seniors to help themselves and by providing a comprehensive range of multicultural and multilingual services.

Founded in 1966, Self-Help offers a vast array of health care and social services to over 40,000 seniors and disabled adults annually in San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara and Alameda counties.

More than 90% of the agency’s clients are members of ethnic communities; and over 90% of Self-Help’s current staff is bilingual and bicultural in various Chinese dialects, Vietnamese, Tagalog, Spanish or Russian.
