Job Description
The Construction Quality Coating & Insulation Inspector is responsible for ensuring that all coating and insulation activities comply with the highest standards of quality, safety, and regulatory requirements.
The Construction Quality Coating & Insulation Inspector shall inspect and ensure that all coating and insulation activities are integrated into the overall construction schedule and are completed efficiently and in compliance with specifications.
Responsibilities
- Inspect the application of protective coatings on structures, piping, and equipment, ensuring that surface preparation, coating thickness, adhesion, and curing meet the required project specifications and industry standards (e.g., NACE, SSPC, ISO 8501).
- Inspect the installation of thermal, acoustic, and fireproof insulation materials on piping, vessels, tanks, and equipment, ensuring proper application, fit, and compliance with project specifications.
- Responsible for surface preparation and material verification that they meet the necessary quality standards, including checking material certifications, batch numbers, and proper storage conditions.
- Conduct visual inspections, thickness measurements, adhesion tests, and other quality control activities to confirm that the coating and insulation work meets specifications and industry standards.
- Verify coating, painting and insulation works are carried out in compliance with approved project procedures, work instructions, specifications and applicable international codes and standards.
- Witness applied coating and painting system tests according to approved QCP.
- Identify and report any defects, non-conformances, or issues found during inspections, resolving these issues, ensuring that corrective actions are implemented.
- Maintain accurate records of all inspections, test results, and non-conformance reports (NCRs) and issue inspection reports.
- Provide regular updates on inspection status, including progress, issues, and recommendations for improvements to the Project / Area Construction Quality Manager.
- Contribute and support continuous improvement by staying informed on the latest coating and insulation techniques, materials, and standards.
- Diploma in a related field (e.g., Materials Science, Engineering, or Construction).
- Certification in coating inspection (e.g., NACE Level 1/2, SSPC, FROSIO, or equivalent). Certification in insulation inspection (e.g., ICORR or equivalent) is a plus.
- Proven experience in coating and insulation inspection, with a strong background in the oil & gas, offshore, or marine industries.
- Good written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to document and report inspection findings clearly and effectively. Fluent in spoken and written English.
- Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify welding-related issues and work collaboratively to implement corrective actions.
- Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental regulations related to coating and insulation processes. Ability to enforce safe working practices and ensure a safe work environment.
