Merjent, Inc. (Merjent) is currently seeking a skilled Pipeline/Horizontal Directional Drill (HDD) Design Engineer with experience in gas transmission and distribution linear projects, including HDD design to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in gas engineering principles and practices, with a specific focus on the design, analysis, and implementation of transmission and distribution projects. This role requires a blend of technical expertise, project management skills, and a commitment to safety and quality standards. The successful candidate will lead and assist in producing a variety of engineering tasks to help our clients' projects succeed by proactively navigating and effectively managing issues and challenges that arise.
This is a full-time benefits eligible opportunity that can be based anywhere in the US. The anticipated annual salary for this position is between $125,900 and $207,000 annually, depending upon qualifications and experience. This position is also bonus eligible.
This position may require occasional travel based on project needs.

responsibilities
- Design, analyze, and oversee the implementation of pipeline projects for natural gas transmission and distribution for a variety of projects in the natural gas industry.
- Conduct feasibility studies, including route selection, material specification, and cost estimation, to ensure project viability and efficiency.
- Develop detailed engineering plans, drawings, and specifications for pipeline construction and maintenance projects.
- Develop detailed HDD plan/profile, site specific, and inadvertent return response and contingency plans.
- Develop technical subsurface exploration, hydrofracture analysis, feasibility, and design contingency plan reports.
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams, including environmental, regulatory, and construction departments, to ensure project compliance and success.
- Manage project timelines, budgets, and resources, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within scope, and on budget.
- Ensure adherence to industry standards, regulatory requirements, and company policies related to safety, quality, and environmental protection.
- Stay current with technological advancements and regulatory changes within the utility and natural gas sectors.
qualifications and experience
- Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related field.
- 5+ years of progressive experience in gas engineering, with a significant focus on linear pipeline design, including HDD, and natural gas projects.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred but not required.
- Previous experience or training with CAD software (AutoCAD Civil 3D).
- Previous experience or training with pipeline engineering software.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills with the ability to write descriptive and technically accurate specifications and reports.
- Must have a valid driver's license with a good driving record.
