Your Opportunity
One Permanent Full-Time Position.
Capital Power is currently seeking a highly motivated, commercially minded individual to join our Supply & Trading (S&T) efforts as a Senior Analyst.
S&T is responsible for managing and optimizing all of Capital Power’s North American merchant asset exposures (electricity, natural gas and environmental products). Reporting into the Director, Origination, the Senior Analyst role is accountable to provide quantitative and commercial support to the major North American power markets that Capital Power's origination team is active in and including the WECC and PJM markets.
This role will require a high amount of collaboration with key external and internal stakeholders, including customers, agencies, internal peer/cross-functional support groups, and executive.
You will contribute to our team by
Support originators in assessing market opportunities that are sourced directly from customers and counterparties
Conducting the varied analytical, modeling, reporting and compliance requirements of the Origination team, including market analytics, pricing, budget preparation, corporate business and market reporting.
Work closely with internal teams, including trading, legal, finance, and operations, to ensure successful transaction structuring.
Developing pricing models and tools for standard physical and financial, conventional, renewable, retail and wholesale energy products.
Price and structure customized and tailored products and services
Prepare and support deal summary presentations to senior management
Supporting the development of Capital Power’s responses to commercial opportunities by developing, maintaining and disseminating market intelligence associated with customer needs and prospective solutions.
What you will bring to the role
Education:
Bachelor’s degree specializing in Statistics, Mathematics, Finance, Economics, Engineering or related field.
Experience:
5-10 years’ experience in a similar role.
Technical Skills:
Commercially focused business acumen, with strong analytical skills and the ability to simply communicate complex issues / challenges and associated solutions, both internally and externally.
Knowledge and understanding of the roles, responsibilities and processes (front, middle, back-office) related to delivering energy-related solutions to customers and stakeholders.
Advanced application skills related to MS Office Suite (Dynamics CRM, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, PowerBI).
Advanced analytical and coding skills that can include coding / using VBA, SQL, R, Python languages.
An understanding of matters potentially impacting Capital Power’s customers / stakeholders, including energy market dynamics and interconnected markets and utility tariffs.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, solid negotiation skills.
Ability to handle multiple tasks and work under pressure situations.
Working Conditions:
The position is based out of Capital Power's Calgary office.
May require occasional Canadian / US travel.
