The Role:
This position will be involved in electrical design and reviewing written specifications for building power, indoor/outdoor lighting, communication and fire alarm systems. You should be able to review design drawings/documents and shop drawings to ensure project quality and accuracy. Willingness to assist with development of designers and CAD/BIM operators. Proficiency in providing daily contact and coordination with clients, contractors, code officials and suppliers. Conduct field observation and project construction administration with some overnight travel for site visits. Completes other work as directed by Team Leader.
Responsibilities:
- Electrical systems design and specifications writing for commercial and industrial buildings. Electrical systems consist of power distribution, fire alarm, solar, lighting controls, etc...
- Interior and exterior lighting design and utilizing common lighting design software.
- Doing short-circuit and arc-flash calculations and utilizing applicable software.
- Apply appropriate National, State and Local Electrical codes to multiple types of project design.
- Reviewing project shop drawings to ensure project quality and accuracy.
- Assist with technical development of internal designers and BIM/CAD technicians.
- Provide direct contact and coordination with clients, contractors, code officials and suppliers over the phone and in person.
- Performing field observation and project construction administration with some overnight travel for site visits.
- Direct and/or supervise junior engineers, designers and BIM/CAD technicians as needed
Requirements:
- BS Degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited university
- PE (Professional Engineering License) in Electrical
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in the design of building electrical and lighting systems
- Autocad proficiency and some exposure/experience with BIM is preferred
- Strong electrical analytical, technical, problem solving, and application skills
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work in a team environment and as an individual
- Strong self-initiative and ability to self-direct
