JOB SUMMARY:
The Accountant is responsible for all aspects of financial reporting for a portfolio of multi-family
properties. This role reports to an Accounting Manager/Supervisor or Controller. The Accountant will analyze financial statements to ensure accounting standards are maintained and prepare monthly reporting packages for timely distribution to clients. In addition, the position requires one to effectively function as an individual and as part of a team to complete tasks as assigned and in accordance with department deadlines.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Perform day-to-day activities that include reconciling accounts and reviewing and analyzing financial statements to ensure accuracy and completeness in accordance with GAAP
- Prepare balance sheet schedules monthly to document and reconcile balances
- Perform trend analysis on income and expenses to evaluate accuracy and completeness
- Maintain fixed asset depreciation and amortization schedules to record periodic depreciation and amortization entries, as applicable
- Respond timely to financial review comments generated from financials analysis by property operations and second-level accounting reviewer and record accruals and/or adjusting entries as noted
- Assist with AP related tasks, verifying invoices/expense reports/petty cash, entering periodic invoices, and responding to vendor inquiries
- Assist with AR functions which may include periodic check scanning and reconciliations with property operations
- Assist with responses to external audit requests for client annual requirements, as needed with internal audit team
- Ensure all bank accounts are current and reconciled weekly prior to cash projection reporting
- Ensure security deposit accounts are fully funded, if applicable to the property
- Prepare weekly cash position reports for operations team and clients to make decisions
- Initiate wires, ACHs, and internal bank transfers
- Prepare investor cash distributions, as needed
- Ensure critical payments are made timely (i.e., mortgages, taxes, insurance, utilities, owner distributions, etc.)
- Calculate and pay monthly property management fees, asset management fees, etc., as applicable
- Prepare monthly financial reporting packages and timely distribute to clients
- Effectively communicate and collaborate with property operations and corporate team members in a timely manner while providing exceptional customer service and escalate as appropriate
- Perform other duties and tasks as assigned by management
- Available after normal business hours to ensure reporting and project deadlines are met
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel is required
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Must be detail oriented to ensure accuracy of financial information
- Exceptional organizational skills and time management are required
- Proven ability to manage and prioritize a workload of property portfolios with conflicting deadlines
- Commitment to excellence and high standards
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field
- Minimum 1 year of full cycle accounting
- Property management experience preferred
- Experience with Entrata, Yardi, or similar property management software preferred
- Maintains confidence and protects operations of business by keeping information confidential
- Ability to operate in an open work area with moderate everyday noise
- Ability to work from multiple locations

- Associates who are regularly scheduled for and work 30 hours or more per week are eligible for company-sponsored benefits the 1st day of the month, following completion of 30 continuous days of employment.
