Job Description

About Baptist MD Anderson Cancer Center
Baptist MD Anderson Cancer Center is a destination for highly coordinated cancer care, from screening to diagnosis to treatment to survivorship. Recognized as a top place to work in health care, Baptist Health cares for more patients in Northeast Florida than any other provider, ranking as “most preferred” for more than 30 years. We’re Jacksonville's only locally governed, faith-based, not-for-profit health system and provide a full spectrum of preventive and specialty care through 200+ locations and six hospitals. Our centers of excellence include Baptist MD Anderson Cancer Center, Baptist Heart Hospital, Baptist Neurological Institute and Wolfson Children's Hospital.

Baptist MD Anderson Cancer Center seeks a Thoracic Surgeon with expertise in all aspects of general thoracic surgery to join our practice within the Section of Thoracic Surgery. Surgeons at all levels of experience are encouraged to apply. Contribution to program growth, multidisciplinary clinical leadership, and the academic development of a high-volume cancer program are necessary. Leadership opportunities are available for mid-career applicants.

This faculty position includes the broad practice of general thoracic surgery and thoracic surgical oncology, including all aspects of esophageal disease, both benign and malignant, lung, chest wall and mediastinum. Candidates should have substantial experience in minimally invasive approaches to surgery, including robotic surgery. Strong commitment to multidisciplinary cancer care, clinical outcomes, research and education are desired.

Baptist MD Anderson Cancer Center is the Southeast patient care hub for the MD Anderson Cancer Network®, in partnership with The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, and a premier program of the Baptist Health System. The thoracic surgery program is based at Baptist Medical Center Jacksonville, a 529-bed tertiary referral hospital serving one of the fastest-growing regions in Florida.

We seek and will support candidates who will:

  • build a strong clinical practice in thoracic surgical oncology

  • contribute to programmatic growth, quality initiatives, and care pathway development

  • participate meaningfully in scholarly and educational efforts

  • collaborate effectively across a mature multidisciplinary cancer program

  • strengthen relationships with regional and external referring physicians

Qualified applicants must have completed an ACGME-accredited thoracic surgery training program, be board-certified or board-eligible through the American Board of Thoracic Surgery, and hold, or be eligible to obtain, an unrestricted Florida medical license. Candidates will be considered for an Adjunct Faculty appointment at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, commensurate with clinical and academic accomplishments.
