Job Description

The incumbent will develop a strong working knowledge of systems, materials, and sources to minimize risk to the business, following up on performance to schedules and work with others departments to assure the production schedules are met. The incumbent will also keep abreast of industry trends on assigned commodities and work to improve overall quality, while meeting our cost reduction and delivery objectives. The incumbent will support new product development projects, procuring prototype and development parts, and in some cases sourcing and negotiating with suppliers. The incumbent will be expected to follow standard practices and procedures. Resolves invoicing and accounting issues as they arise. This position will work strategically and use the latest tools to identify improvement ideas as well. This position reports to the Procurement Manager for Instrument Hardware. The incumbent keeps abreast of industry trends for assigned commodities that may affect quality, cost, delivery, and manages supplier base and contract adherence. Normally receives no instruction on routine work but will get work instructions on new assignments. Follows standard practices and procedures in analyzing data from which answers can be readily obtained. Handles problems of moderate scope where analysis of situations or data requires a review of identifiable factors.

Essential Responsibilities include: 

• Will be expected to support Strategic Sourcing projects working with the Commodity Managers to source for new product development. 

• Identifies and drives continuous cost improvement using Lean Six Sigma tools. 

• Responsible for managing risks before they become potential issues impacting the project schedule.

Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree a plus with 5 years of experience in a professional purchasing role. 

Requires strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal leadership skills in a high volume work environment. 

Must have a practical working knowledge of ERP/MRP systems: PRMS and Oracle working knowledge is preferred. Previous experience purchasing for MRO is preferred. 

Proficient computer skills and knowledge of MS Office applications especially Excel with the ability to learn new programs that are job specific. Must have demonstrated ability to lead continuous improvement/Lean efforts and cost reduction initiatives.
