This nursing leadership position ensures high quality nursing practice within the interdisciplinary program model of Healthy Baby/Healthy Child, by organizing clinical nursing activities and directing and evaluating the professional practice of nurses, according to established standards of care.
DUTIES:
- Ensures equitable approach to maternal and child health that incorporates BPHC racial justice principles.
- Organizes, directs, continually monitors and thoroughly evaluates the care given to patients by nurses.
- Evaluates the performance of individual nurses, utilizing regularly scheduled supervision sessions, actual observations of practice and annual written evaluations, and coaches, counsels, and corrects nursing staff work performance.
- Reviews and observes nurses' clinical practice and records that nurses are consistently meeting program standards.
- Participates in the recruitment, interviewing, orienting and retention of staff.
- Monitors the development of nursing care plans to ensure that quality nursing care is delivered in accordance with program protocols and nursing standards.
- Supports staff in identifying opportunities to enhance clinical skills and educational opportunities.
- Supports nursing operations by initiating, coordinating, and enforcing program, operational, and personnel policies.
- Participates in identifying and developing in-service training agenda and program for nursing staff and other disciplines on new and emerging topics.
- Participates in meetings and committees as assigned and acts as clinical representative to Healthy Start Systems, BPHC and external partners.
- Uses digital devices, electronic medical records, and database systems and analyzes data to manage and improve service delivery and clinical practice.
- Facilitates relationships with liaison sites including supporting and maintaining initiatives and partnerships.
- Promotes collaboration and communication among members of the HBHC team and external care providers.
- Maintains a cooperative relationship across program teams by communicating information, responding to requests, building rapport and participating in team problem-solving methods.
- Supports program nurses and other staff during change in assignment during normal operations and during time of unforeseen events and emergencies.
- Supervises staff for successful implementation of new program initiatives.
- Supports program as appropriate in procuring appropriate equipment, supplies and educational materials for clinical practice, infection control, and program outreach.
- Provides clinical expertise on projects, assessment developments, and program protocols.
- Provides written reports for program stakeholders.
- Performs other duties as required.
