The Senior Manager of Service Reliability & Maintainability Engineering leads a team dedicated to ensuring products, systems, and equipment are designed and supported for maximum serviceability, minimal downtime, and optimal lifecycle cost. This role defines maintainability strategy, drives design-for-serviceability initiatives, partners across engineering and operations, and develops processes that improve Mean Time to Repair (MTTR), accessibility, diagnostic capability, modularity, and field service efficiency. The manager provides both technical oversight and organizational leadership to embed maintainability principles throughout the product lifecycle.
Responsibilities
Establish and govern maintainability standards, processes, and requirements across all products and platforms.
Develop recommendations to reduce service time, improve technician ergonomics, and eliminate repeat failures caused by maintainability issues.
Establish maintainability requirements and KPIs (e.g., MTTR, accessibility targets, tool requirements).
Drive improvements in diagnostic systems, fault isolation logic, and remote troubleshooting capabilities.
Translate field learnings into actionable design improvements, strategic insights, and long-term platform enhancements.
Represent maintainability requirements in design reviews, technical reviews, program gates, and executive updates.
Develop and/or recommend operating and capital budgets and controls expenditures within approved budget objectives.
Design and direct the work of the team. Select, coach, and develop staff. Set clear expectations to inspire and motivate the team. Manage performance by recognizing achievement, providing feedback, and administering progressive discipline when necessary.
Oversee, direct, and assign activities and responsibilities that ensure the highest level of operating standards regarding facility appearance/cleanness/orderliness and Environmental, Health and Safety.
Oversee and assign activities and responsibilities for projects assigned to ensure timelines and budgets are met. Lead Engineers through the implementation of new technologies and equipment. Define resource needs and works within budget and staffing parameters to accomplish objectives for area of responsibility.
Minimum Requirements
Education
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Mechanical, Electrical, or related degree OR 8 years related experience in the Engineering and Service Reliability & Maintainability function within a similar working environment.
Work Experience
10 years’ experience working and supporting a lean manufacturing environment.
5 years of progressive Engineering and/or product maintainability management experience in similar work environment.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
Understanding and application of MTTR, Total Productive Maintenance and Reliability processes.
Experience with development & maintenance of engineered products.
Experience collaborating with multiple sites and functions to drive common solutions.
Proven project management background.
Successfully managed shifting deadlines and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Demonstrated ability to influence senior management, teams, and individuals across multiple functions.
Familiarity of safeguarding procedures and protocols.
Demonstrated understanding and application of lean principles.
Demonstrated understanding of financial measurements and goals. Previous experience using SAP/MRP or equivalent ERP.
Preferred Job Requirements
Education
Advanced degree in Engineering, Technical Management or Business Management
Work Experience
15 years’ experience with a focus on maintainability, service engineering, or product architecture
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
Familiarity with principles and practices of budget preparation and administration.
Experience working with field service operations, service organizations, or aftermarket support.
Deep understanding of maintainability analysis methods, service architecture, and design-for-maintainability best practices.
Demonstrated success implementing maintainability standards across large engineering organizations.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear; and use hands to manipulate objects or controls. The employee is regularly required to stand and walk. On occasion, the incumbent may be required to stoop, bend, or reach above the shoulders. The employee must occasionally lift up to 25 pounds. Specific conditions of this job are typical of frequent and continuous computer-based work requiring periods of sitting, close vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Occasional travel.
