Job Description
The Bridge Inspection Assistant Team Leader supports field inspection teams in performing bridge and structural inspections in accordance with applicable federal, state, and client requirements. This role assists with inspection planning, field documentation, condition assessment, report preparation, and coordination with team leaders, project managers, and agency representatives. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, safety-focused, technically capable, and motivated to grow into a bridge inspection team leadership role.
Key responsibilities include:
- Assist the Team Leader with routine, in-depth, special, emergency, and hands-on bridge inspections.
- Perform field observations of bridge components, including decks, superstructures, substructures, bearings, joints, railings, drainage features, approaches, culverts, and ancillary structures.
- Document structural conditions through field notes, measurements, sketches, photographs, and inspection forms.
- Identify and communicate deficiencies, deterioration, safety concerns, and potential repair needs to the Team Leader and Project Manager.
- Support preparation of inspection reports, condition ratings, recommendations, and supporting documentation in accordance with applicable inspection manuals and agency standards.
- Assist with traffic control coordination, access planning, equipment setup, and safe field operations.
- Review prior inspection reports, plans, load ratings, repair records, and other background information prior to field work.
- Coordinate with internal staff, subconsultants, contractors, and agency representatives as needed to complete assigned inspection tasks.
- Maintain organized project records and support quality control reviews of inspection deliverables.
- Promote a strong safety culture and comply with all company, client, and regulatory safety requirements
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Civil, Architectural or Structural Engineering or related discipline. 1 year of related experience. Domestic and/or international travel may be required. The frequency of travel is contingent on specific duties, responsibilities, and the essential functions of the position, which may vary depending on workload and project demands. Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
Driving Requirements
An appropriate and valid driver's license is required.
Skills & Abilities
Intermediate Knowledge of computer assisted design and drafting (CADD) 3D and 4D software and practices. Knowledge of engineer principles of design. Expert Knowledge of Microsoft business software (excel, word, etc.). Good written and verbal communications skills. Intermediate knowledge of engineering analysis/design software (e.g. Revit, STAAD, RISA).
Amount of Travel Required
20% - 40%
Heavy Equipment Operation Requirements
Heavy equipment operation and proper licensing to operate heavy equipment is a requirement of the position.
