Patient Care Technician I
Job Description
Under the direction of professional nursing staff, the Patient Care Technician I, Medical Oncology, PRN provides direct patient care including taking vital signs, assisting with activities of daily living, performing blood draws, and collecting specimen samples. This role supports patient safety and comfort, assists with admissions, transfers, and discharges, and collaborates with the healthcare team to monitor and report changes in patient condition. Responsibilities also include managing catheter care, conducting blood glucose monitoring, performing venipuncture and nasal swabs, operating EKG machines, assisting with enteral feedings and wound care, and responding to patient alarms. The technician ensures a safe clinical environment, maintains patient rooms and supplies, mentors other PCTs, and complies with safety standards to optimize patient outcomes and improve patient flow. Additional duties are performed as assigned within the scope of practice.
Work Experience
Education and experience requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent, current Maryland state certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Geriatric Nursing Assistant (GNA), and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, with one year of prior experience preferred. Candidates must possess strong verbal and written communication skills, the ability to work effectively within a team, and the capacity to prioritize tasks and manage multiple duties in stressful situations. Proficiency in computer systems is required, along with demonstrated competence in obtaining accurate blood glucose results, performing delegated nursing tasks tailored to diverse patient needs, and adhering to aseptic techniques with accountability.
