Job Description:

The Cardiothoracic Imaging Division at the Medical University of South Carolina is seeking a highly motivated Research Scholar to join our growing academic and research team.


This position offers a unique opportunity to participate in cutting-edge cardiothoracic imaging research using state-of-the-art imaging technologies, including:

  • Photon-Counting CT
  • Advanced Cardiac and Thoracic MRI
  • Artificial Intelligence applications in imaging
  • Quantitative imaging and post-processing
  • Cardiovascular and pulmonary imaging research
  • Multidisciplinary translational imaging projects

The candidate will work closely with faculty, fellows, residents, and multidisciplinary clinical teams in cardiology, pulmonology, cardiothoracic surgery, and oncology.

 

Job Duties:

  • (20%) Participate in clinical and translational cardiothoracic imaging research projects
  • (20%) Assist with manuscript preparation, literature review, and scientific writing
  • (15%) Support data collection, image analysis, and research coordination
  • (15%) Participate in abstract preparation and national meeting submissions
  • (10%) Assist with statistical analysis and research database management
  • (10%) Collaborate with faculty on ongoing AI and advanced imaging initiatives
  • (10%) Contribute to academic and educational activities within the division

Preferred Qualifications

We welcome applicants from diverse academic and clinical backgrounds. Ideal candidates may include:


  • International radiologists or physicians with prior radiology training
  • Radiology residents or fellows with research interest in cardiothoracic imaging
  • MD, DO, PhD, or equivalent degree holders interested in academic imaging research
  • Candidates with prior experience in:
    • Clinical research
    • Scientific manuscript writing
    • Biostatistics or data analysis
    • Imaging research methodologies
    • Artificial intelligence or quantitative imaging

Additional preferred qualifications include:

  • Strong interest in cardiothoracic imaging and academic radiology
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Prior peer-reviewed publications or conference presentations
  • Experience with statistical software or imaging analysis platforms is a plus

Appointment Duration and Renewal

This is a full-time research position with an anticipated initial appointment of 12 months, depending on candidate qualifications, visa status (if applicable), and research funding availability. The appointment may be renewed or extended based on satisfactory performance, ongoing project needs, and mutual agreement.
