Job Description
Summary
The Department of Neurology is seeking an experienced Occupational Therapist to support our ALS Clinic. The ideal candidate will excel at conducting a physical assessment of patients, developing treatment plans, assessing work and home environments of patients, and developing physical rehabilitation programs here in the clinic.
This position will be part-time and support our clinic every 2nd and 4th Fridays of the month.
ALS Clinic at Baylor College of Medicine is a Certified Treatment Center of Excellence.
The ideal candidate must be comfortable working with patients with progressive diseases and caretakers.
Job Duties
- Assesses each patient through a physical and psychological assessment and creates and follows a treatment plan.
- Advises patients on equipment aid or daily activities, answer any concerns patient or care givers may have during their visit. Educate caregivers and family members of patient care.
- Develops physical rehabilitation programs to help patients regain lost skills that will prepare them for a return to work.
- Evaluates results and progress of occupational therapy on patients.
- Maintains professional knowledge and the technical progress in order to provide patient with the best
treatment program available. - Evaluates patient condition regarding physical and basic mental health.
- Attends ALS briefing meetings before every clinic.
- Partners with Neurologist, Sleep, Palliative Care, & Neuropsychology for best treatment plans.
- Performs other job related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited Occupational Therapy program.
- Four years of relevant experience.
- Licensure by the Texas Board of Occupational Therapy Examiners. Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
- Certification in area of specialty.
