Job Description:

The RN Preceptor is responsible for orienting, training, and mentoring with the on boarding process for Registered Nurses and existing employees. Will be identified as a liaison to ensure effective communication between members of nursing staff, management, and director. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Willingness and desire to assist in the orientation of new hires
  • Oversees the clinical orientation of new hires during orientation period.
  • Acts as a role model to assist the orientee to: socialize in the workplace, learn and develop clinical practice, shape critical thinking and judgment skills; supervise to ensure patient safety
  • Proficient in the drug storage cabinet with ability to train others in all of the processes.
  • Skilled at mixing chemotherapy and therapeutic medications for proficiency in training the process to the orientee ensuring best practice
  • Works with the clinician to review documentation processes and forms for the patient visits
  • Monitors the orientation checklist so that outcomes are met within the appropriate time frame.
  • Communicates with members of management regarding new hire progress.
  • Collaborates with manager in 45 and 90 day evaluation.
  • Provides expertise in Clinical skills and knowledge with the ability to provide rationale for tasks performed.
  • Follows and understands all Clinical policy and procedures ensuring best practice.
  • Collaborates with the training team on assessed education needs in order to develop organized, proficient, and quality focused education program.
  • Works in collaboration with all departments to ensure organizational goals are met.
  • Select and use training/instructional methods and procedures appropriate for the situation when learning or teaching new processes.
  • Following orientation be available as a resource mentor for the employee
  • Identify measures or indicators of system performance and the actions needed to improve or correct performance, relative to the goals of the systems.
  • Conducts job specific application training minimum once per quarter.
  • Preceptor will train in the new employee’s clinic within their region.
  • Preceptor will work at their home clinic when not orienting a new employee and help with special projects if time and staffing permits.
  • Participates with new version functionality testing  of  potentially all applications ( EMR, Healthstream, etc.)
  • Supports end users with defining and resolving issues with the new versions.
  • Maintains the highest standards of professional conduct in relation to information that is confidential in nature
  • Supports and adheres to Tennessee Oncology mission, vision, and values.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Must complete the Tennessee Oncology Preceptor Training Class – required

The Role of the Preceptor The Orientee Learning Content

  • No less than one year experience in the clinical area as  a Tennessee Oncology RN
  • Associate Degree in Nursing; Preferred BSN
  • OCN preferred
  • Current Tennessee License; unrestricted
  • Current CPR certification required
  • Familiarity on Quality and Regulatory Matters
  • Chemotherapy and Biotherapy Certification Required

Able to travel to satellite clinic when necessary.
