How you’ll contribute
A Cook who excels in this role:
- Performs a variety of tasks that support the delivery of food service and nutritional care to patients, employees, and visitors
- Prepares, seasons, and cooks food for patients, staff, visitors, and special functions
- Reviews menus to determine the types and quantities of food required
- Prepares high-quality food in sufficient quantities to meet all service requirements
- Coordinates preparation timing to meet service schedules for patients, staff, and visitors
- Adheres to standardized recipes and portion controls to minimize food waste and manage food costs
- Maintains cleanliness and sanitation of equipment in food production areas
- Follows sanitation and food safety standards, including HACCP guidelines
- Participates in the ordering and inventory of supplies
- Provides guidance and direction to personnel assisting with food preparation
- Applies knowledge of age-specific patient needs in the performance of duties and responsibilities
- Orients and mentors new staff members
- Follows Standard Precautions and uses personal protective equipment as required
What we’re looking for
Education:
- High School graduate or equivalent required.
Experience:
- Two years’ experience in food services hospital setting preferred.
Certifications:
- Ability to be ServSafe Certified within 3 months of hire. Also, must re-certify every 3 years.
Skills and Abilities:
- Excellent customer service skills including effective listening skills
- Basic math skills are required
- Knowledge of food sanitation and safety (HACCP Servsafe Certificate)
- Knowledge of food quality through the use of established procedures and guidelines
- Familiarity with organization and functions of each hospital department
- Ability to motivate personnel, problem-solve effectively and handle stress in a positive manner
- Maintain harmonious relationships with nursing personnel, medical staff, hospital administration, and all hospital departments.

- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
- Must be able to push a cart loaded with 50 or more pounds
- Must be able to sit long periods of time
- Work requires physical ability such as walking, standing and bending
- Must be able to talk and listen in order to communicate with patients
