This position requires the selected candidate to work onsite in La Crosse WI.
Position Summary
Provides a high level of customer service by coordinating closings for commercial and consumer non real estate loans which includes but is not limited to accurately and timely preparing documentation as well as reviewing loan files before and after closings. The Commercial Loan Specialist works in a team environment and requires a high degree of interaction with fellow associates. The work is complex and confidential; consequently, attention to detail and accuracy is essential. Ability to work under pressure, prioritize multiple job tasks and meet deadlines is necessary. Understands and completes job responsibilities in accordance with federal and state compliance regulations. Ensures the highest level of customer satisfaction according to our Culture of CARE.
Essential Job Functions
- Provides a variety of services pertaining to commercial and consumer non real estate loans by working with lending staff to determine their needs and providing proper loan documentation of all loan types and extensions by reviewing loan requests and loan files to complete documentation.
- Requests and reviews pay-off statements, proof of homeowner’s/flood insurance, and other documents as necessary. Completes closing verifications as well as investor-required documentation.
- Prepares loan closing packages, including closing instructions for the settlement agent and internal closing checklist. Reviews documents for accuracy and compliance per program requirements.
- Uploads commercial and consumer non real estate loans to core system, disburse funds, organizes loan files and enters 1099 information for IRS reporting when applicable.
- Processes commercial non originated adverse action files. Maintains non-originated loan files per regulation.
- Responds to customer inquiries regarding business applications and loans in process.
- Subject Matter Expert (SME) for commercial loans, including documentation, core and loan system.
- Manages the ticklers and delegates/communicates with individuals as needed to complete or advance the tickler
- Reviews the HMDA Loan Activity Report on a monthly basis.
- Rate Swap Loans: Perform the setup, maintain procedures, balance and ensure all functions are concise and working regarding Rate Swap loans. Primary for handling internal and external customer requests.
- Performs reconciliation and reporting for Small Business Administration 1502, FSA interest assist loans, DDA accounts on a monthly basis.
Additional Duties and Responsibilities
- Assists with training new associates in Loan Operations.
- Serves as a back-up for keeping loan origination system parameters updated and compliant with state and federal regulations. Assists with improvements to system parameters as directed.
- Helps with process and procedure improvements where needed.
- Updates knowledge and develops professionally on a continuing basis. Participates in internal and external training and development opportunities as required.
- Other job-related duties may be necessary to carry out the responsibilities of this position.
Software/Technology
Operates personal computer in a Windows environment for word processing, spreadsheets, e-mail, internet/intranet, and other bank specific software. Utilizes a variety of office equipment including computer printer, calculator, copier/scanner/fax, and multi-line telephone.
Education and Experience
High school diploma or equivalent and knowledge of commercial loan documentation and compliance required. Associate or bachelor’s degree preferred, and one to three years banking or related industry experience is highly desirable.
Other Skills and Abilities
Must possess basic math skills and strong computer skills; technical ability to input and retrieve computerized information. Ability to maintain the integrity of highly confidential customer and Bank information.

Working Conditions
Work is performed largely in an office environment, during normal business hours. Deadline pressure is an integral part of the job. Regular mental and visual concentration for computer usage and reading/assimilating complex and technical compliance information is required. Position will alternate between walking, sitting, standing, stooping, bending, and occasional lifting up to 15 pounds of office supplies and/or documents throughout work shift.
