Role Overview

This creative role has been developed to support The Walt Disney Company Publishing team in Asia Pacific (APAC). This involves creating and reviewing branded content as well as working collaboratively with teams of artists, editors, and content developers to ensure all creatives properly align with Disney stories, sensitivities, and quality benchmarks.

An ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of the Disney brand, franchises, and stories. They need to understand the ins and outs of each story and its characters, as well as the rules of how they should be presented with each other. They should be a problem solver and a global thinker. One should understand art and design as well as the establishing of proper contexts withing a dynamic storytelling venue. One should be able to apply creative concepts to multiple franchises, while maintaining the unique brand of visual storytelling that Disney is known for.

The Assistant Manager, Creative supports the planning, development, key account management and delivery across various touchpoints, including print, digital, product, and educational materials across Disney’s portfolio, including Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, and National Geographic.

This role works closely with external development partners and internal stakeholders to ensure creative quality, brand consistency, and strong storytelling across all initiatives, while aligning with business goals and market needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with external developers and partners to support creative planning and delivery of client‑required assets, with a strong focus on digital platforms and across print and other relevant formats.
  • Manage key accounts effectively to deliver agreed creative goals and objectives across stakeholders.
  • Review, create, and provide feedback on creative concepts, designs, and executions to ensure alignment with Disney brand and storytelling standards.
  • Provide creative and branding guidance across creative assets and marketing materials, in accordance with corporate and IP guidelines.
  • Research creative trends, benchmark products, and emerging technologies to support continuous improvement and innovation.
  • Propose creative ideas and enhancements to strengthen storytelling and consumer engagement.
  • Support analysis of product performance with sales and business teams and contribute to future product planning and scheduling.
  • Collaborate cross‑functionally to manage multiple projects in a fast‑paced environment.

Qualifications & Experience

  • 3+ years of experience in creative roles within the design, digital content or digital experiences industry (art direction or equivalent experience preferred).
  • 5+ years of experience working with external partners or key accounts, from concept development through final delivery.
  • Solid understanding of brand management and IP‑based businesses.
  • Practical experience using creative tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, etc.

Skills & Attributes

  • Native‑level Japanese communication skills, with the ability to provide clear, precise, and nuanced creative feedback.
  • Working proficiency in English (spoken and written) preferred; willingness to work in an English‑speaking environment required.
  • Strong creative judgment with a broad interest in art, digital culture, pop culture, and consumer trends.
  • Ability to think creatively while working within brand and business guidelines.
  • Strong sense of ownership, responsibility, and teamwork.
  • Self‑motivated, adaptable, and comfortable working in an evolving and fast‑paced environment.
  • Strong interest in learning about new creative approaches, technologies, and consumer‑facing digital services.
