Responsibilities
The RN,CDE will provide education, assessment, follow-up and care of outpatients in both the Endocrinology Center for Bone Health and the Diabetes Center, to include adolescents, children, adults and pregnant patients. The RN,CDE will work cooperatively as part of the Diabetes Management Team, to provide outpatient care and follow up of the patient under the direction of the Endocrinologist. The team management may occur in a group setting or individually with patients. RN,CDE may be responsible for adjustment of insulin and medication doses. The Diabetes Nurse Educator will follow Medical Staff guidelines in regards to any policies or procedures outlined for clinical care purposes.
Requirements
EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE
- Education and Work Experience:
- Must possess a high school diploma or GED
- Must possess a degree in RN,CDE
- Diabetes Management experience necessary
- Must have Endocrine practice experience
SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS
- License Requirements:
- State of Maryland Registered Nurse
- Certification Requirements:
- Certified Diabetes Educator
- Age Specific Care Provided For:
- Adolescents
- Adults
- Geriatrics
- Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Microsoft Word, Power Point, Excel
- Microsoft Outlook
- Meditech (if applicable to position)
- Epic (if applicable to position)
- Performance Manager/NetLearning
- Computer proficiency and technical aptitude with the ability to utilize one or more of the following:
- Must be able to read, write, and speak the English language in an understandable manner.
- Must be able to work independently and possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
- Must possess the ability to effectively communicate and deal tactfully with other personnel, visitors, patients, physicians, customers, and the general public.
- Must be flexible, have personal integrity, and the ability to function effectively as a team with other employees.
- Must be able to follow written and oral instructions.
- Other Requirements:
- Must possess skills in Communication, Interpersonal skills, management of stressful situation and attention to detail.
- Must review all protocols and medical guidelines within a one-month time frame.
- Must be knowledgeable of laws, regulations and guidelines pertaining to health procedures.
- Must possess the ability to seek new methods and principals and be willing to incorporate them into existing practices.
- Must be able to demonstrate knowledge of practice differences in medicine for assessment and treatment of age-related needs of patients ranging from pediatrics to geriatrics.
