Position Overview
CCG is seeking a driven, operationally minded Director of Business Development to lead and grow our business development efforts across Japan. This hybrid sales and logistics role is central to expanding CCG's presence in the Japan collectibles market. This leader will play a key role in helping the company to establish an office in Tokyo with an initial focus on providing full-time grading services for sports cards, trading card games (TCGs) and non-sports trading cards. The successful candidate will be responsible for building and maintaining dealer and partner relationships, driving submission volume, and providing on-location logistics support.
This is a unique opportunity for a collectibles enthusiast with a business development mindset and a hands-on approach. When not traveling for client meetings or industry events, the incumbent will be office-based in Tokyo, which will serve as the operational hub for all Japan submissions activity.
Key Responsibilities
Sales & Business Development
- Analyze the collectibles market landscape across Japan, identifying prospective partners, dealer members, and business opportunities to grow CCG's market share.
- Regularly travel throughout Japan and potentially the broader region to meet with current and prospective clients, and attend trade shows, conventions, and other industry events to represent CCG and develop new relationships.
- Educate current and prospective clients on CCG, its range of services, grading standards, and the benefits of third-party authentication and verification.
- Negotiate submission agreements with clients and organize and coordinate all related documentation and follow-through.
- Provide regular updates to the Senior Leadership Team on sales performance, pipeline activity, client developments, and broader market trends in Japan.
Submissions & Logistics Management
- Serve as the primary point of contact for all Japanese customer submissions, providing hands-on support to guide clients through the submission process from start to finish.
- Coordinate end-to-end receiving, grading and shipping operations with CCG’s on-site operations team
- Manage the timely return of certified items to Japanese clients upon completion
- Oversee packaging, shipping logistics, and related administrative tasks to ensure submissions are processed efficiently and securely.
Qualifications
- 3–5+ years of experience in sales, business development, or account management, with exposure to logistics, shipping, or operations considered a strong asset.
- Fluency in English and Japanese, both written and spoken.
- A genuine passion for collectibles with deep knowledge of the Japan trading card market is strongly preferred; direct experience in the collectibles industry a significant advantage.
- Current resident of Tokyo (or willing to relocate), with the ability to work from a Tokyo office when not traveling for business.
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong client relationships across a wide geographic territory, with comfort traveling regularly across Japan and the broader region.
- Working knowledge of Japanese business practices and customs is an asset.
- Strong negotiation, communication, and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate the value of CCG's services to diverse audiences.
- Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage concurrent submission workflows, client agreements, and logistics coordination.
What We Offer
- The opportunity to represent a globally recognized industry leader in the collectibles space.
- A dynamic role combining sales, client relations, and hands-on operations.
- Travel expense coverage and support for trade show and industry event attendance.
- Collaborative team culture with direct access to senior leadership.
- Career advancement opportunities and on-the-job training.
